40k: Help with Space Wolves

I recently bought the Space Wolves codex, and would like all kind of
help with them. Specially some help with tactics, I usually play against
Eldar and Imperial Guard and both Howling Banshees and Lemon Russ tanks
are really hard to deal with. Painting tips would be great too, how can
I paint wolf fur? Always when I tried (on Warhammer Fantasy Wolf Riders)
it looks really dull. Please reply by E-Mail.

-5 Wolf Guard Termies, any more would be cheezy
(To paint wolf fur, I base it white and add brown and/or black)...
Some tactics ok first NEVER take vortex Grenades... Calm down just get teh
spell. Now arm your Iron priest with a graviton gun and a conversion field
with a warp jump or jump pack... :¬) I'm usually forced to do this because
my Eldar opponent uses the Eldar Tempest Tank, which I a hard time crackin
its armour...
But you can use it against anyone or anything... Kinda useless agaisnt
psykers though... Give Ragnar the hood of darkness and run him into the
ennemies deployment zone.. De-cloak and HTH psykers, weapon crews etc...
But hes going to need help like and assassin or grey hunters whatever....
Wolf guard termies, my personal fave... I once played a 1000pt. game just
5 termies, Ragnar, Callidus Assassin and N'jal, against 1 Patriarch, 1
magus 4 Hybred with Heavy wepons 10 genestealers and 8 other Hybreds... I
won without loosin 1 guy. How you say? The assassin de-polymorphed and ran
into HTH with the magus, won and use her neural shredar and killed some
hybreads, the genestealers were delayed, the strategy card, and some
cyclone missiles killed the small group of 7 Hybreds.His genestealers were
getting into position but we Termies lined up with their storm bolters and
2 assault cannons... My friend gave up... Alot of games I've got my
ooponet to give up BEFORE his first turn... That happends when they put to
much stock in of vehicle or character... Well enough about me e-mail me
back with your army list I'll reply...

What, all those special characters, and assasin, and an inquisito isn't

Use 10 Wolf Guard all armed with assault cannons and Bjorn with Ablative
armour and reinforced armour. This usually defeats my Eldar army
whenever I play SWs.

No, a MEDIC, and you DON'T need a 2nd Grey Hunter squad for it... "You
can have a additional Wolf priest for every Grey Hunter pack after the 1st

wrong with that) Eldar should stick to Eldar, they work out better....

Iron Priest are TechMarines, TechMarines are technally Tech Priests, as

1. As far as I know, 'medics' are not in the space wolf codex.
It would have to be an ally...
2. Is Ulrik not a Wolf Priest? Therefore, to include a SECOND wolf priest,
you would need a SECOND grey hunter pack.

I would wager that 99% of the people you just posted to:
1. Can afford special characters.
[And quite possibly make more money than yourself, given your apparent
levels of education and maturity...]
2. Don't live in their parent's basement.
3. Are far more mature than yourself.

Not a flame, but how many battles take place where every single
Space Wolf character shows up??? With all of the attributes that the
Space Wolves have already, it becomes massive overkill to play with all
of the special characters.
Winning by skill & work begets achievement, winning by cheese
doesn't. I personally play Guard, and will field an assassin or two every
few games, but since I don't have the characters to back up my army, I
can only fall back on its other strengths (such as tanks, and lots of guys).
Space Wolves already have Blood Claws, Grey Hunters, Long Fangs,
etc, and really don't need the characters to make them a tough army.
Using characters can add flavor, but too many just drive opponents away
(from you). Like was said before, usingg the figs is fine, but wwhy not
just make them regular guys (tech-marine, captain, librarian, etc).
Maybe even come up with your own characters, every little bit
improves the game, makes the battles more enjoyable, and will keep
opponents happy, instead of just blowing them off the board in the first
turn. Hell, give me a four turn slug-fest anyday, the fewer models "both"
armies have on the board at the end, the better the battle.
It is far better to lose and learn, then to win and never learn
anything.

no one ever said not to use the model. The models are cool. The
recomendation was to use the generic stats. Besides there is not generic
model for a wolfpriest.

fluff is not the same as RULES.
servo arm WGC says "techMARINES, TechPRIESTS and squat engineers only"
Graviton gun card says "Imperial techPRIESTS and squat engineers only"
if a techmarine and tech priest were equivalent then they would not BOTH
be listed on the servo arm wargear card. hence techpriests and
techmarines are different.

if i've done my math right thats 1999 points and a fairly balanced army.
alternately swap out the scouts and whirlwind or land speeder for a
dreadnaught and still have enough points for a rhino. Lets see, that 3
characters, a ~tactical squad, ~assault squad, ~devastator squad and a
scout squad and vehicles to taste...

Another comment on my army no doubt... I MIGHT OWN EVERY CHARCTER MODEL
I DON'T USE THEM ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! Only when I'm too lazy to write
up just a reg character and arm him, wargear him... I use special
character becasue their ready to play from the codex... When I do use alot
of special charcters its to combat against 'cheese' from my opponent...
Namely Eldar (no flames please) because the Eldar players I play against
seem to want to field 6+ warp spiders, ArmourCast Tanks and so on... The
best opponent to play against is Tyranids, no need for cheese unless your
playing low point game and can't afford anything...

He's not saying that he uses ALL the Space Wolves army. Everyone uses
characters in their games, and if you don't agree then keep it to yourself,
its just a fellow gamers opinion.

A good sw army can have:
Wolf lord
Rune lord
Tech Priest
Greyhunter Squad
Devastator squad
Bloodclaw Squad
and a vehicle or two for 2000 points
Thrumbar

Actually he can have 2 Rune Priest in a army that contains inly 1 grey
hunter pack as you can include 1 rune priest in your army regardless of
its size of composition and one othe for every grey hunter pack.. So a
force with 1 Hunter pack would include 1 rune priest to begin with and one
other for the grey hunter pack..

A Techmarine is not a Tech Priest whether the UM codex sayes so or not,
if you do not belive me call GW and ask them... A Techmarine is if
anything a Space Marine Tech-Priest not an Imperial Tech-priest who is an
Imperial Agent who is with the Adeptus Mechanicus and not a marine..
