Just a short official announcement from TSR, here.

I'm Sean Reynolds, TSR's new Online Coordinator. Rob Repp has taken a job
with
another company, and so he is no longer here at TSR. I'll be in charge of
our
online contacts, including the internet, AOL, etc.

Some of you might recognize me from the newsgroup - I'm a gamer, and I've
been
on the net (and r.g.f.dnd) for about three years now. Things are going to
be
odd for a little while as things adjust to my absence and Rob's presence.
Please be patient during this time, as I am generally a nice guy and want
to
help.

I don't have any official word on our net-polocy as of yet, since I
haven't gotten
to speak with the appropriate people. Please do not flood my mailbox or
this
newsgroup with a hundred questions for me about what changes, if any,
might or might
not take place - I won't be in a position to give _any_ answers for
several days, at
least, if not more.

Thanks for your time.

Sean, I hate to complain on your very first post, but you MUST
change that line length! Your wrap-around makes your post a trifle
bothersome to read.

Last question: What is your job as it relates to the jobs of
TSRJim and TSRSteve? Who gives us the legal news? Who gives us
gaming answers? Please clarify things so we may properly address
our questions to the correct person.

Thanks for YOUR time,

Dru Smith

You ought to keep in mind that it probably wasn't Rob that made
those policies, but rather the lawyers and other evildoers higher
up in the ranks. Imagine: you get a job with TSR, you get to be the
liason to the Internet, combining two things you enjoy: AD&D and
the Internet. Great, right? Thenthe first thing they tell you is "You
shall go forth on the Internet andmake sure our copyrights aren't
violated." The job doesn't sound so good anymore...

It's no wonder that Rob quit. My conscience wouldn't have let me
keep his job either.

While Sean will undoubtedly clarify, I'll just jump in and say that I'm
strictly here for the games-stuff. I work on and am a fan/player of
RAVENLOFT, DRAGONLANCE, LANKHMAR, and OD&D (well, only a player & fan of
the latter, for obvious reasons). I also work on a special project now and
then, like DRAGON DICE and the upcoming "Shaman" AD&D supplement.

I purposefully avoid any of the copyright and trademark posts, because I
got flamed out of this group when I was but a TSR freelancer and
'net.regular. (Some of you may recall the NUELOW series of net.freebie
games [currenlty available via ftp from wais.com and a couple of other
places that I don't remember right now]. I was the driving force behind
those...) Plus, anything I'd have to say about those matters would be
personal opinion, and I learned what happens when you try to express an
opinion on this matter; I can only imagine what would happen if I tried to
express an opinion with "TSR" in front of my name. :)

So, any RL, DL, LK, and OD&D questions, feel free to toss 'em my way. I'd
also like to hear your opinions of recent RL products. Anyone out there
picked up "Chilling Tales" yet? Anyone wanna sound off on it?

I guess he saw the light...good4him.

Incidently, in future posts, please stick with the 80 line width...99% of
people use it, and wrapover lines just look really -bad-.

First off, congrats to Veggie Boy! :)

Here's a handy short-hand on what seems to be the proper places to send what:

1. gameplay questions, rules questions, product questions, general
questions, etc.:

any account that begins with the letters "TSR" :) Methinks Jim & Steve
would be more in the know rules/gameplay-wise, or at least be able to get
answers quicker than the "official" routes. Anything that would be
appropriate for a Dragon letter/Forum submission/Sage advice question can
go to TSRMags. "Officially", any questions you wish to ask TSR should go
to TSRInc. (or the equivalent GEnie, Compuserve, EWorld, etc. address)
Any questions will end up being forwarded to the people who should know
anyway.

2. legal questions:

Until TSR's legal dept. comes out with its own e-mail address, send this
to TSRInc (or the equivalent on other services). They will be forwarded
to the people who should see them.

3. errata reports, reports on errata in the errata lists: ( :) )

TSRJim was kind enough to act as liason for errata reports. Send him any
errata you find in any TSR products, and he'll see what can be done to
correct future printings and/or issue errata lists. Errata lists already
exist for the PH2R & DMG2R, Jim has so far posted them roughly twice a
month, often enough that they'll usually be on most news servers all the
time. (though a web page or ftp site would be easier...) :)

4. RPGA questions:

Dang...I forgot the address (IDHT-FAQ-IFOM)...RPGAKevin(?) is the person
to whom RPGA questions should be sent.

5. Anything else:

Heck, just read through the first part of Part 3 of the FAQ. There's a
nice list of contact addresses there, in the form of a small crib sheet on
what those addresses cover. (substitute "Sean Reynolds" for any occurrences
of "Rob Repp", though, and disregard the "mob...@mcs.net" address).

To quote Prego (or is it Ragu?)..."It's in there" and if it isn't in
there, write me with a request.

I'm sorry, I doubt I'll ever get used to the AOL newsgroup
interface, and I left my truncation-macro at home. :/

>Am I misunderstanding, or do you mean "...my presense and Rob's

Wow, I'm making a great first impression, eh? I meant my
_presence_....

>Last question: What is your job as it relates to the jobs of

I am mainly in charge of our online forums and internet site.
Jim and Steve can do what they like - they're mostly doing this
because they like to, AFAIK.

For any updates on online activities, services, or problems,
that would be me. I can (and do) answer gaming questions,
but I have the feeling that Jim or Steve will usually get to
it before I do.

Again, thanks for your patience.

After what your new boss did to Morpheus, your next post had
better be a real doozy of a retraction of previous policies,
or you will, as a gamer, learn more about Benedict Arnold
than you ever cared to.

I've seen several of this year's RL products...

_When Black Roses Bloom_ was a disappointment. I haven't run it
(gotta get that campaign started someday...), but it doesn't look that
great. Like me, you're disappointed that Soth got left behind, aren't
you?

_V.R.'s Guide to Fiends_...Just picked it up this weekend, very
nice. I'd like to have seen transposition be made more subtle, but
otherwise, a very strong piece of work.

_Baroness of Blood_ was a good low-fantasy intrigue novel. _Death
of a Darklord_..as those of us of the Ravenloft Mailing List have
noted, didn't have much to do with the title character. Aside from
that glitch, though, and problems with the magic system, it wasn't bad.

Now, three interrelated questions, two on RL and one on DL:

1) Is there any chance whatsoever of making _Masque of the Red
Death_ a continuing product line, either as an independent world or a
Ravenloft 'sub-line'? It seems to have been one of TSR's most
acclaimed products in recent memory, and I'd like to see it continue.

2) The question I have been dying to ask: What is slated for
release for Ravenloft in 1996? Please tell me (unless you risk
punishment by the TSR higher-ups) If you can tell me, please e-mail
me, my net access is sporadic, and the article might be lost by the
time I get back.

3) Any word on more DL novels from Weis & Hickman after Summer
Flame?

Thank you, and keep up the good work on Ravenloft.

" _When Black Roses Bloom_ was a disappointment. I haven't run it

Well, uh, I actually wrote the bulk of that final section of the
adventure, as well as bits and pieces here and there throughout the
adventure, in an attempt to make it conform with DL continuity and
attitude. (I just kinda forgot to include myself in the credits... a minor
oversight for which I owe Lisa Smedman many apologies. :) )

And as far as Soth being left in RL, I actually think he's of more use in
that setting. I ran an 18-month long campaign set exclusively in Sithicus,
and revolving mostly around Soth and Kitiara. On Krynn, Soth would, at
best, have been a distant figure, if I would have used him at all. In
Sithicus, I think his at once tragic and monstrous nature can be allowed
to fully shine. That's why I didn't provide an option for Soth's escape
from RL. (Plus, I thought the idea of making the gate out the way it is
was just too cool to pass up. :) I won't say what it is, in case someone
hasn't read it, or is planning to run it, but I'm sure those who know the
adventure can see the difficulties Soth would have had in escaping. :) :)

But, if you want to use the adventure in your campaign, and you want to
free Soth up for use in DL, the just go ahead and do it! The campaign
details we provide are guidelines. If you think Soth is more valuable in
DL, then adjust the ending a bit, or change the motivation for why he
wants the black gem... or possibly have the business in Nedgragaard Keep
be actual conduits to Krynn, and all Soth has to do is be successful in
one of the fantasies to escape RL and return home--arriving in the
campaign's present day, through the magic of role-playing and DM's plot
requirements... :)

We're hoping, praying, and working on it, but as of right now, it looks
like "Masque" will supported in POLYHEDRON," possibly DRAGON, and through
at least one annual product. (This year, it's the "Gothic Earth Gazateer,"
which will be out in November.)

"2) The question I have been dying to ask: What is slated for

At this point, I'm not allowed to give too many details on '96, but there
are big changes in store for Darkon, Dr. Van Richten will be experiencing
some difficulties, and there's going to be a "Masque of the Red Death"
product toward the end of the year.

" 3) Any word on more DL novels from Weis & Hickman after Summer
Flame?"

Not at this point...
