I currently don't have enough money for boat/house/anyplace to store stuff.
I want to transfer some leather from character A (my warrior) to Character B
(My tailor) recently I have just been leaving a bag in a place, log off with
one, log in with other and pick up bag. There is no security for this. Can I
make 2 keys for one box, so each character can have one and I can leave
locked box, and only my 2 guys can open it??

Sure. But, how will you get the key to the other guy?
Have you ever lost anything from the lack of security? I've transferred
large sums of gold, hundreds of each reagent, and all kinds of other items
between characters with the "drop and grab" method at a non-busy tavern or
inn. I've never lost anything. Besides, it's just leather. Make sure
you're in the most out-of-the-way, unpopular inn or tavern around. If you
drop your bag in the southern corner, nobody can see it anyway. Nobody pays
attention to what goes on in taverns or inns, especially the off-main street
ones.
Anyway, as for the box - yeah, you can do that. Keep in mind anyone with
decent lockpicking will be able to open it anyway, and many people have
lockpicking skill.

True enough... The main reason I ask is I wanted to start transferring some
of the gold to my warrior from my tailor (being the generous sort) and I
would really hate to lose 1k of gold to someone just wandering by.. Not that
I begrudge people a living :)

The box wouldn't permanantly stay on the ground just while Character a is
logging out and Character b is logging in, tis possible for someone to just
open and snatch but to have to pick the lock is an extra precaution....

There are several things you can do to transfer items from one character to
another as safely as possible.

1) Make some friends. Build some trust with a few people and get them to
help you with transfers.

2) Write OSI a suggestion that all characters of an account should be able
to access each other's bank box.

3) Proceed with your previous actions but take the following precautions
first:

a. Get a GM tinker to make you a GM locked, GM trapped chest. Only a near GM
lockpicker can open a GM chest. Should cost no more than 100gp.

b. When he makes the chest, get him to make 2 copies of the key. 1 key goes
in your bank box...permanently. 1 key is for your use and the other key is
for your other character. (note: make sure you don't put it on a keyring or
it will NOT disarm the trap)

c. transfer one of the keys to the other character, preferably through a
friend.

4) For your transfer sites, choose an out of the way tavern or inn. If it's
busy, wait a while or go elsewhere. Choose a southern or eastern wall or
corner. Use your circle of transparency to place the chest "behind" the
wall. Have both of your characters in the same location before you drop
anything.

Good luck.

This would be handy... I can see it now...

Open up your bank box... and say 'I wish to make a transfer' and targeting
crosshairs
would open up... click on the item you wish to move... and a list of
characters on your
account would pop up... select one and press ok... then it transfers the
item to the other
characters bank box or if there isnt enough room... don't transfer the item
but instead
show the 'container can hold no more objects' message or similar.

I could get used to that real fast. :)

I would LOVE a change like that. As it is, transferring items between
characters is one of the most stressful UO occurances for me. When I
transfer 3-5k leather or wood from my hunter/woodsperson to my main
character, I've got to dump all the stuff *at the bank* because it's too
heavy to cart to the nearest inn/tavern. I can't use another person
because I solo almost exclusively (nobody sane wants to hang out with
someone who spends all his time lumberjacking, fishing, mining, and building
stuff ^^) and barely know anybody, so this is my only recourse. And the
time between logout and collection with character #2 is a harrowing
experience, even when I pick a less-populated bank.

It's a good thing so few people actually go INSIDE the banks. :)

I think the main reason they don't do this is to get us to work together. The
game is a lot more fun if you interact with other players (in ways other than pk
or be pk'd)

The suggestion for asking a friend or another player to help is a good one. You
can offer to help them, or give em a little something for their troubles.

You didn't mention but what shard are you on? I would be happy to meet
you and help you make the transfer. If it is on one of about 4 shards
(Cats,Chessie,GL,Europa) where I have some cash I would even go and
give you the money then let you give it right back, as I know when
starting out handing your hard earned cash over to someone you don't
really know can be spooky.

Hmmm, don't know what I did wrong but replied before and it never
showed, lol. What that post lost in cyberspace said was if you need
help just let me know, I will come to your shard(which you haven't
mentioned yet) and help you with the transfer. If it makes you leary
to hand off your life savings to a stranger, on about 4
shards(cats, chessie,gl and europa) I have characters with enough money
where I can give you the money to your receiving character first and
you can then give me the money from your cashmaker. Just let me know
and we can set something up.

But you could have at least snipped the part where I misspelled
leery,hehe.
