Henley, a Karpov second, told me before the Timman match that he
thought Karpov only had a 25-30% chance this time against Garry.
He was concerned (1) Karpov has been playing much poorer of late
(2) has had a tendency to catch colds (3) has been taking chess as
seriously as he had in the past. Anatoly has MANY side interests
(collecting stamps, political, ecology, money, etc.).
Karpov has an exposure, in my opinion, in that he consistently plays
the same opening variations. He knows them well, but...
