4TH CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER GAMES

London

August 5-11, 1992


Organized by David Levy, the founder of the Computer Olympiad, and sponsored by AST,
the 4th Olympiad and Conference on Computer Games will take place in the Park Lane Hotel,
London, England, from August 5th-11th, 1992.


OLYMPIAD

The Computer Olympiad is a kind of Olympic Games for computers and computer
programs. The programs will be playing against each other at a variety of
well-known strategy games:

Awari 8 x 8 Draughts Renju
Backgammon 10 x 10 Draughts Reversi/Othello
Bridge Go Scrabble
Chess Go-Moku Chinese Chess
Nine Men's Morris

Suggestions on games not listed above are willingly considered for inclusion.
As foremost candidate, a competition on MetaGame (information to be obtained from
Barney Pell, Barne...@cl.cam.ac.uk) is likely to be included.
Connect-Four and Qubic, present on previous olympiads, are no longer played,
as these games have been solved.

Competition is open to programs, both commercial and non-commercial,
which run on computers at the tournament site. Although it is encouraged
to bring your own computer, the organization will make PC's available
for those who cannot bring their own computer.


CONFERENCE

The 4th Conference on Computer Games will take place alongside the Olympiad.
Papers are invited on any aspect of programming "thinking" games. Papers
should ideally be 3,000 to 4,000 words in length, though papers of any
length will be considered.


HOW TO SUBSCRIBE

To subscribe a program to the Olympiad, send mail to David Levy at
the address listed below, containing
(1) name of the program,
(2) name(s) of the author(s),
(3) game played by the program,
(4) address and telephone number where you can be reached.
For each non-commercial program an entrance fee of 50 pounds applies, while
for commercial entries the entrance fee is 250 pounds, to be paid in full at
the beginning of the Olympiad. Authors of programs can take part in the
Conference without extra charge. Authors are encouraged to subscribe their
programs as soon as possible. After July 1st, and extra charge of 25% applies.

To submit a paper for the Conference, send mail to David Levy
at the address listed below before June 1. Notification of acceptance
of submitted papers is sent at July 1.

To subscribe to the Conference send mail to David Levy at the
address listed below, containing your name and address.
For the Conference an entrance fee of 25 pounds applies.


ACCOMMODATION

The organization can help in arranging inexpensive accommodation for participants
provided they let know their requirements in time.
Late requests will be considered, but no guarantees are given.
