3RD COMPUTER OLYMPIAD
and
3RD CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER GAMES
Maastricht, The Netherlands,

In the context of the 3rd Lustrum of the University of Limburg and with the
co-operation of David Levy, the founder of the Computer Olympiad, the
3rd Olympiad and Conference on Computer Games will take place in Maastricht,
the Netherlands, from August 22nd-28th, 1991.
OLYMPIAD
The Computer Olympiad is a kind of Olympic Games for computers and computer
programs. The programs will be playing against each other at a variety of
well-known strategy games:
Awari Cribbage Go (9x9) Renju
Backgammon Dominoes Go (19x19) Reversi/Othello (r)
Bridge 8 x 8 Draughts Go-Moku Scrabble (r)
Chess 10 x 10 Draughts Nine Men's Morris
Chinese Chess Gin Rummy Qubic
Suggestions on games not listed above are willingly considered for inclusion.
Competition is open to programs, both commercial and non-commercial,
which run on computers at the tournament site. Although it is encouraged
to bring your own computer, the organization will make PC-clones available
for those who cannot bring their own computer.
CONFERENCE
The 3rd Conference on Computer Games will take place alongside the Olympiad.
Papers are invited on any aspect of programming "thinking" games. Papers
should ideally be 3,000 to 4,000 words in length, though papers of any
length will be considered.
HOW TO SUBSCRIBE
The organization committee for both the Olympiad and Conference consists of:
Victor Allis, Tons van den Bosch and Jaap van den Herik.
To subscribe a program to the Olympiad, send mail or email to Victor Allis at
the address listed below, containing
(1) name of the program,
(2) name(s) of the author(s),
(3) game played by the program,
(4) address and telephone number where you can be reached.
For each non-commercial program an entrance fee of Dfl. 180,- applies, while
for commercial entries the entrance fee is Dfl. 900,-, to be paid in full at
the beginning of the Olympiad. Authors of programs can take part in the
Conference without extra charge. Authors are encouraged to subscribe their
programs as soon as possible, but not later than July 15, 1991.
To submit a paper for the Conference, send mail or email to Jaap van den Herik
at the address listed below before July 1. Notification of acceptance
of submitted papers is sent at August 1. The conference proceedings will be
edited by Jaap van den Herik and Victor Allis. Contributors have free entrance
to the Conference.
To subscribe to the Conference send mail or email to Tons van den Bosch at
the address listed below, containing your name and address.
For the Conference an entrance fee of Dfl. 50,- applies.
ACCOMMODATION
The organization can arrange inexpensive accommodation for participants
(between Dfl 30,- and Dfl 65,- per person per night with breakfast)
provided they let us know as soon as possible, but no later than June 1.
Requests after June 1 will be considered but no guarantee can be given due
to the summerfestival in Maastricht during the Olympiad.
