** Announcing the release of XBoard version 3.5 **

XBoard is a graphical chessboard for the X Window System that can
serve as a user interface for GNU Chess, for the Internet Chess Server
(ICS), or for electronic mail correspondence chess. XBoard can also
be used by itself. It can read and write game files in PGN (portable
game notation).

You can (either now or soon) get XBoard 3.5 from the Internet Chess
Library, a GNU ftp, or my Chess page on the World Wide Web:

- ftp://caissa.onenet.net/pub/chess/X/xboard-3.5.0.tar.gz
or ftp://caissa.onenet.net/pub/chess/uploads/X/xboard-3.5.0.tar.gz
- ftp://prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu/xboard-3.5.0.tar.gz
- http://www.research.digital.com/SRC/personal/Tim_Mann/chess.html

Version 3.5 releases of the related programs WinBoard (for Microsoft
Win32) and AmyBoard (for the Amiga) are not available at this time.
WinBoard may be available later, but currently there is no AmyBoard
developer.

Report bugs in these programs to <bug-gn...@prep.ai.mit.edu>.
Please read the section of the included READ_ME file that tells how to
report bugs before sending email.

=== Change highlights since the last release (3.4.1) ===

* Merged in Frank McIngvale's XbKit. Many new features, including
optional click/move/click piece movement (in place of
press/drag/release), Crafty analysis modes, piece flashing, ZIICS
piece set import, ICS text colorization, and an ICS input box. Many
thanks to Frank for supplying and documenting this code.

* Added Info XBoard and Man XBoard to the Help menu.

* Pressing the Control key steps back one move, and releasing it steps
forward again.

* Added -checkLegality option. You can turn this off for ICS Kriegspiel,
atomic chess, or other chess variants that XBoard doesn't understand.

* Many small bug fixes and improvements.

Just let folks know, if you are compiling xboard 3.5 on AIX 4.2 you
need to edit config.h before you run make (edit it after you run
configure). You must comment out the line:

#define HAVE_GRANTPT 1

(I submitted this as a bug against one of the betas, but a fix
apparently didn't make it into the final release).
