Hi all,

Since some days I test the new Junior5 32-bit (Fritz-)engine.
I run all tests on two Pentium 200MMX machines with 64Mbyte Ram each.

To make it short: Amirs new version is a marvellous chess program, not
only considerably better than Junior 4.6, but also a real challenge to
*all* programs I use (Fritz5, Hiarcs6, Rebel9, Mchess 7.1, Genius5,
Shredder2, Crafty 15.x etc.).

It has become very fast and very good in tactics, and, what surprises
me much more, most times also plays positionally sound attacking
chess, even on blitz level.

I hardly could believe to see it score around 70-% in some dozens of
autoplayer Blitz games against top opponents like Genius5 (very good
in Blitz), Mchess 7.1 and others.

Of course it owes all its chess understanding to the autoplayer, just
as Fritz5 before :-)

Here two nice examples from the 10'/game matches, showing some of
Juniors well developed positional skill:

Hiarcs6 - Junior 5 [C18]

Rxe2 0-1

Hiarcs6 was the only program hitting back equally hard at times. As I
said, Junior5 lost only around 30% of the games against the top
programs.

This encourages me to begin a new small welcome tournament with two
tournament games each (40/2h, white and black) against the programs
listed above (plus one or two others).

I'll post some of these autoplayer tournament games here soon.
Comments are welcome...

Kind regards
from Dirk

Where the hell do you all get the Junior5-beta from?? Or is it the final
which is released now?

Junior4.6 was/is strong enough to compare with the other top programs. it
plays marvellous.

Is it now possible to play the other engines with autoplayer too?

Hi Harald,
I'm using the new Fritz5-surface for 32-bit engines with the new
Junior5 enginge as beta tester. You will soon be able to use it too:
It will appear in connection with Junior next month (September),
as Chessbase announced on their web site.

The 32-bit engine is a little bit stronger in blitzing even than
Fritz5 and much stronger than many other programs.

It looks to me as if it also plays strong tournament chess.

By the way Shay Bushinsky announced that Junior will play GM Yudasin
today until August 28th (two tournament games, 4 rapid games). Live
coverage on ICC.

OK, you answered one of my questions. Where are the other answers? ;-)

Hi Harald,

of course I knew what you and others probably would like to know most
of all :-)

As far as I heard there is a good chance that Fritz5-32 with Junior5
will contain an autoplayer device. Wait and see...

If so, I will appreciate it, and I guess anybody will...
