Many years ago I purchased version 2 of Nicbase and have recently
taken up chess again, well, I still like nic 2 and would like to keep
using it - except being an old version it comes down to building the
database - perhaps by importing PGN (well it won't do that), but are
there any coinversion utilities/ storehouses of data?

All utilities I've seen thus far seem to be for version 3 - on a
related note, what version are they up to now? Is Nicbase still in
production? The New In Chess site seems to only mention Chessbase?

Thanks for any information

6 years ago when they lost their programmers, NicBase effectivley ceased to
be in the software business. They have been relegated to producing game and
opening collections with their NicBase Light viewer which looks like a
windows viewer but is still only a DOS program. The programmers left and
went on to another company called TascBase. Check out the CB Light program
on the ChessBase site http://www.chessbase.com/
or the ChessBase Beta demo at the Univ. of Pittsburgh site.

Both of these programs will be more useful to you than NIC 2 and they are
free. You also will be amazed at CDB which is free.
