Don't expect a version 9 for sometime, Marty Hirsch is now
working on a pay to play internet chess site. There isn't much
money in computer chess anymore.

Ed Schroder stated about a year ago that the computer chess
market is maturing. He did not expect to be able to work at
computer chess full-time for more than another five years at that
point, now four years. Marty Hirsch last year got a 'real' job
doing something else full time. He did computer chess only part
time.

Rebel and Chessbase have had to drop prices to stay
competitive. Why do you think they put out demo/trial versions
of their programs now? When you had to pay $200 dollars for a
strong program from them you didn't even get a chance to "kick
the wheels" first. They may be making money but I would wager
that it isn't anything spectacular.

allot of programs.
