Having read a few of posts here I was curious enough to contact Tatts. Just wondered if anyone else is interested in the reply:
Draw machines information

Saturday TattsLotto, Monday & Wednesday Lotto, Super 7's OzLotto.

Barrels

Commencing Saturday, 2nd April 2005, we introduced our "new look" TattsLotto barrels which use an air blowing mechanism to randomize the balls. The barrels were also modified to enable the drawing of 7 winning numbers and two supplementary numbers so they could also be used to conduct Super 7's Oz lotto as of its introduction on the 18th October 2005.

These barrels were also used to conduct Wednesday TattsLotto until the cessation of the game in June 2008. Monday and Wednesday Lotto is administered by NSW Lotteries and has it's own dedicated barrels.

Two barrels are currently used for conducting these draws each week (Super 7's Oz Lotto and Saturday TattsLotto). Only one barrel is used per draw and the other barrel is on standby as a backup. The barrels are rotated in the following sequence so that the same barrel is not used for the same product in consecutive weeks: 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, etc. This sequence came into effect as of Tuesday July 1 2008 (Super 7's Oz Lotto Draw # 750) after the cessation of Wednesday TattsLotto.

Example: On Saturday August 29 2009 (Draw # 2933), Barrel 2 was used to complete the draw. Barrel 2 will also be used on Tuesday September 1 2009 to conduct Oz Lotto (Draw # 811). Consequently, Barrel 1 will be used for next Saturday night's draw (Draw # 2935) and Barrel 1 will also be used for next Tuesday night's draw (Draw # 812) and so on in accordance with the sequence of barrel rotation listed above.

Balls
There are 3 sets of Saturday Lotto balls. Set 1 is only used with Barrel 1, set 2 is only used with Barrel 2 and set 3 is a back up/emergency set only. None of these sets have been replaced since 1995, before this date we do not have any details readily available.

The Super 7's Oz Lotto balls were last replaced on 23rd February 2004 ready for use for draw # 523 held on Tuesday 24th February 2004 (When the game was called Oz Lotto)

Super 66

Barrels
Super 66 has 2 dedicated barrels which are also alternated with each draw in the following sequence: 1, 2, 1, 2, etc. so the same numbered barrel is used for Super 66 and TattsLotto each Saturday night (i.e. if TattsLotto is using barrel 1, Super 66 will also use barrel 1. Both these sets were last replaced on July 16th 2005.

Balls

Super 66 has 2 sets of balls and once again, Set 1 is only used with Barrel 1, set 2 is only used with Barrel 2.

Powerball

Barrels
Powerball has 3 barrels in total, 2 of which are used to conduct each draw. One barrel is used to draw the 5 main numbers and the second barrel for drawing the Powerball number. The third machine is kept on hand as a back up.

These 3 barrels are all configured to enable them to draw either 1 or 5 balls and are alternated each draw in the following sequence: 1-2, 3-1, 1-3, 2-1, 3-2, 2-3. This is then repeated from the beginning of the sequence.

Example: For Powerball Draw # 685 (drawn on 02/07/2009), barrel 3 was used for drawing the main numbers and barrel 1 for drawing the Powerball. This Thursday night's Powerball (Draw # 686) will use barrel 1 for drawing the main numbers and barrel 3 for the Powerball. Next week (Draw # 687 on 16/07/2009) barrel 2 will be used for the main barrel and barrel 1 will be used for the Powerball etc.

Balls

There are 3 sets of main number (blue) balls and 3 sets of Powerball (silver) balls. These sets are also used with their respective numbered barrel and consequently are also alternated in sequence with each draw. We have not changed the Powerball balls from the original sets (introduced on 23/05/1996).

Maintenance

The barrels are maintained, serviced and tested regularly to ensure they remain in full operating order. If there is an issue with one of the barrels, it is serviced and repaired the next morning so the sequence of barrels scheduled for use does not change.

New ball sets are ordered whenever new barrels are purchased or as deemed necessary by our Regulator, usually due to wear and tear after many years of use.

Hi Gay,
Thanks for posting this. Did they clarify at all if they swap the barrels for the NSW tatts monday/wednesday lotto. From reading it I would assume that they have 1 dedicated barrel for each game and it's not swaped over?
Thks

Hey hey,

This is an interesting article... thanks for posting!

Just curious... in the Lotto draw barrel sequence:

1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, etc.

does this then revert to the front of the sequence or continue as:

1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, etc?

Hi Splash, I haven't been back here for years and have had to use a different login. After posting the original post here about the 2 separate sets and barrels, I contacted them again for any updated information but they closed ranks. Someone high up got hold of it and told me they were under no obligation to reveal any such information. Their excuse was that it made it a fairer competition. My comment to that is: If, as they claim, it is not possible to calculate the possible/probably outcome, then what does it matter to them if we have all the information? Surely under the freedom of information act, we should be able to get access to anything like that.
