You say 14 draws Colin and I thought it was ten. Let's compromise and run
this test for twenty draws. Presumably RP won't mind how long the test
lasts. As for Nigel (best pronounced 'niggle') presumably he's too busy
niggling Usenet.. to care! :-)

Over 20 draws, the guaranteed minimum return for the 0+t/ball will be Ł60
(Ł3 per draw). Please repost here what the mathematical return
'expectations' are for 14 coms per draw, over 20 draws. We can then compare
those figures with the actual returns.

Hopefully others here will post their 14 random coms (using all available 39
numbers) and of course, they should allocate a different thunderball number
to each combination. There are 14 thunderball numbers (nos 01-14)
available.

Using my LottoTester program I did 10 runs playing 14 randomly
generated lines in 20 randomly generated draws.

Expected per probability formula is: -
0 Main + PB 10 * 3 = 30
1 Main + PB 8 * 5 = 40
3 Main 2 * 10 =20 (usually should be more than 2 Main
+ PB)
2 Main + PB 2 * 10 =20

Total Prizes 110 for 280 outlay giving return of 39%.

I would expect 14 randomly generated lines not to always
contain all the numbers. If the objective is to try and
win a prize at the very least the lines should be randomly
generated in CoverMaster and Optimized to insure all the
numbers are in play without duplicate clusters.

Using my LottoTester program which I started 1999 I can pretty well do
whatever I want. If it's not there I just code it in. It's actually
still in Access which uses VBA and at times DAO rather than ADO and
lots of SQL. Each run below takes less than a second. I will get
around to doing a VB version one day.

Using the 14 line set I gave which has all the PowerBalls and the main
constructed by using next best play using my own Lotto Design
Generator gives pretty well the same Percentage Return using my RNG as
in the previous results RNG with RNG. Conclusion is that even though a
win is guaranteed every draw by playing all PowerBalls for such a
small number of plays no advantage is gained over Random Selections.

My understanding is the test is about whether playing all 14
Thunderballs with the full pool of 39 used makes a difference in a 14
line set when considering the four lowest prize levels. (One point of
contention is that if a 3 + Thunderball or higher is won then one
misses out on 3 Quid ) Nick volunteered to check the results for any
contributors that supplied a set of numbers.

For those that take an interest in how Lotto designs are constructed,
given that a combination of two integers is paid on, the logical way
to go about it is to make a set first with unique Ones then Twos for
the main numbers, adding lines with the next best coverage. eg

Then you randomize it and add randomly the Thunderballs to each line
without a repeat.

Readers of this newsgroup would be well aware that Nick has a history
of commenting on the contributions of others as if his interpretation
is more important than reading it oneself, but rarely does he state
something other than the bleeding obvious. (Thought I might indulge in
a bit of blighty vernacular.)

Given only four participated including myself, which I think is a
first, I wanted to make sure the results were interpreted in a broader
context. Hence RNG set with RNG draws and my set as given against RNG
draws. Results for Friday will bring the history up to 20 draws so I
will do RNG with draws and my set randomized against draws.

If Nick can't be bothered giving the results for the four sets and no
one else does I'll do it myself over the next 7 weeks.

There are currently very few participants in this newsgroup but I
guess it gets about a 100 hits a day and a good proportion of those
would not be regular viewers/contributors but rather those cruising
for information on Lotto or Lotteries, so excuse me if I try to be a
bit informative.

For the UK Thunderball Lotto game as at 25 June, 2010 there are 20
draws with the new configuration of Pick 5 from a Pool of 39 for the
main numbers and Pick 1 from 14 for the Thunderball. A prize of £3 is
now paid for getting just the Thunderball (TB) correct, £5 for 1 Main
+ TB and £10 for either 3 Main or 2 Main + TB correct. It has always
been my contention that for any system offered it must be compared
against that produced by Random Selections which is the benchmark to
beat. Here are the results for 10 runs playing 14 Random Selections
against the 20 draw history.

Reminder: a few months ago you falsely accused me of using copyrighted gifs
and jpegs on the RGL spoof website. Images that are freely available to
anyone on the net. You then proudly stated that you had contacted one or two
the image owners and that they were 'interested' in your e-mails. Your
filthy attempt to grass me up, failed!

You then suggested I 'screwed' my syndicate members and possibly some
subscribers here, and hinted that you were not clear which! Yet another
unreasonable and unjust accusation by you, a confirmed fucking idiot!

Subscribing to newsgroups should be a mainly happy experience, sharing
thoughts and ideas with like-minded people. Unfortunately, false-accusing
fuckwits like you and at least one other here, make subscribing to RGL, an
unhappy experience on far too many occasions.

Not one of you false accusers have the decency nor a modicum of human
dignity, to state that you are wrong to publicly accuse a fellow subscriber
of criminal activity: that is, without a shred of evidence to back up their
claims, their allegations and their nasty insinuations!

I've eaten deer and rabbit and fallen plums (made my own plum jam -
yummy!) and I like them. Squirrels are supposedly bland with not much
meat on and not worth the effort. What do raccoons, black bears and

I could do a 'deliberate mistake' (aka typo) and say 'KYJ'. But I won't,
just in case 'Niggle' gets depressed with me reminding him about the amount
