Oh Yawn..

SFS needs such an update its unbelievable.
I have gone back to MS FS98 with the latest mods for soaring its even got an
ASW20 with a working L-Nav and GPS-NAV

untill SFS's graphics get dragged into the 20th century its not a contender.

indeed! when i first used SFS i was absolutely thrilled. the flight,
thermal, and weather modeling were absolutely FANTASTIC! i remember
thinking that SFS would be the perfect sim once it managed to get past
the crappy VGA graphics, which were already outdated by the time SFS
3.0 came out. i'm now so used to higher quality graphics that i have
serious trouble "suspending disbelief" when i'm in SFS. i wish i
could be as happy with SFS as i was five years ago, but over time i've
found that i just don't enjoy it as much.

i've given up on waiting for SFS to get decent graphics. for a while
i thought hangsim, msfs2k, flight unlimited, fly!, or x-xplane (any of
them!) would provide some decent thermal modeling to go with their
nice graphics. for various reasons, ranging from "our thermals are
already realistic" to "realistic thermals don't feel right to power
pilots", i no longer believe that any of these sims will provide a
realistic soaring simulation any time soon.

my hopes now rest with http://home.sol.no/~tseval/sw/index.html. the
screen shots looks good. i just hope the thermals feel like SFS's
instead of the on/off feel of msfs2k or hangsim's thermals.

Most excellent hunting Mark.

Plus it uses OpenGL which means scalable smooth real looking grahpics.
Cant wait to see the released version.

SFS4 is due out very soon for windows platforms, with satellite derived
imagery, support for force feedback sticks, new gliders, switchable between
imperial and metric instruments and lots more improvements. Glidingshop.com
is the UK distributor. Watch www.glidingshop.com for availability. There
will be a beneficial upgrade path for existing owners of SFS3
