Hmm. Lois & Clark has gone up from last week, and SeaQuest has gone down.
Is this the start of a trend?

>65. "The X-Files" (FOX)............................................... 09.1

Ah, not quite as good as last week.

>67. "The Simpsons" (FOX).............................................. 09.0

Still losing to Lois & Clark and SeaQuest.

>92. "Fortune Hunter" (FOX)............................................ 05.6

Cancelled already.

>93. "M.A.N.T.I.S" (FOX)............................................... 05.4

This one shouldn't last too much longer, right?

The answer to both questions is probably "Seinfeld". Madman lost a quarter
of Seinfeld's audience and only did well because it had such a popular lead
in. On its own it would probably be ranked in the 30s.

Yeah, but note that it's FOX's second highest-rating show (BH 90210 was the
first).

Interesting inversion of the expected.

Why?

> 8. "Murder, She Wrote" (CBS)......................................... 16.5

I'm still waiting for the episode when it's revealed that old lady
Fletcher did all the mudrers herself. That's one even I will watch!

> 10. "Madman of the People" (NBC)...................................... 16.2

Again why?

> 11. "Ellen" (ABC)..................................................... 15.9

Yeah, I'm coming around on this one too.

> 19. "Frasier" (NBC)................................................... 14.0

Still clinging to a 14.0, thank God.

> 19. "Friends" (NBC)................................................... 14.0

Pretty good.

> 22. "Wings" (NBC)..................................................... 13.9

Still plugging away.

> 28. "The Nanny" (CBS)................................................. 12.9

Sweet! Fran's zeroing in on 13.0!

> 29. "Step by Step" (ABC).............................................. 12.8

Ditto for the Code-man, the Danaburger and the rest.

> 33. "Beverly Hills, 90210" (FOX)...................................... 12.5

FOX's top rated show. The retooling with Tiffi payed big dividends.

> 36. "Cosby Mysteries" (NBC)........................................... 12.1

Proving that Cosby can keep even a boring show afloat.

> 37. "Picket Fences" (CBS)............................................. 11.7

I guess the PC evangelizing's finally paying off.

> 40. "The John Larroquette Show" (NBC)................................. 11.2

How much longer can this show last? Poor Larroquette!

> 41. "The Martin Short Show" (NBC)..................................... 11.1

Oops. Well, they'll try again in December.

> 49. "The Five Mrs. Buchanans" (CBS)................................... 10.5

Not bad. CBS must be pleased.

> 52. "Sisters" (NBC)................................................... 10.3

Whoa! Isn't this like Sister's highest ratings ever?

> 54. "Lois & Clark" (ABC).............................................. 10.1
> 54. "seaQuest DSV" (NBC).............................................. 10.1

As someone pointed out, Seaquest is now plummeting while L&C is coming back.

Now that they seemed to have gotten their writing staff in order, maybe
the makers of L&C can get rid of that awful Jimmy Olsen pod-person.

> 62. "Touched by An Angel" (CBS)....................................... 09.3

Why?

> 65. "The X-Files" (FOX)............................................... 09.1

Slipping a little, but still doing well.

> 67. "Melrose Place" (FOX)............................................. 09.0

Also slipping a tad.

> 67. "Under Suspicion" (CBS)........................................... 09.0

Closing in on the X-Files.

> 67. "The Simpsons" (FOX).............................................. 09.0

Not good for this venerable show.

> 76. "Models, Inc." (FOX).............................................. 08.1

Back into the 8's. My theory is that Models, Inc. must average a 8.0 or
higher to be back next season. A few more disasters like last week's 7.5,
and I won't be holding out too much hope.

> 79. "McKenna" (ABC)................................................... 07.4

Still beating MSCL. Maybe ABC should switch them.

> 84. "My So-Called Life" (ABC)......................................... 06.6

Somewhat better. Maybe all the lobbying by critics and net fans is paying
off somewhere.

> 91. "Something Wilder" (NBC).......................................... 05.8

Poor Gene Wilder!

> 92. "Fortune Hunter" (FOX)............................................ 05.6

Better than last week by 25%! Too bad FOX canned it; it wasn't bad.

Damn! I think it's time to start lobbying for this show.

But people, if you aren't watching Party of Five, you are missing

: List of Week's TV Ratings

[after a little editing...]

*** MONDAY ***
ABC
: 49. "Coach - Monday" (ABC)............................................ 10.5
: 84. "Blue Skies - Monday" (ABC)....................................... 06.6
: 9. "NFL Monday Night Football" (ABC)................................. 16.3

Looks like "Blue Skies" is on its last legs; it tied with "My So-Called
Life" for lowest-rated ABC show. After the previous week's Dallas-Detroit
thriller, MNF's ratings down.

CBS
: 28. "The Nanny" (CBS)................................................. 12.9
: 18. "Dave's World" (CBS).............................................. 14.3
: 13. "Murphy Brown" (CBS).............................................. 15.1
: 22. "Love & War" (CBS)................................................ 13.9
: 25. "Northern Exposure" (CBS)......................................... 13.7

FOX
: 67. "Melrose Place" (FOX)............................................. 09.0
: 93. "Party of Five" (FOX)............................................. 05.4

NBC
: 45. "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" (NBC)............................... 10.8
: 41. "Blossom" (NBC)................................................... 11.1
: 5. "A Friend to Die For" -- NBC Monday Movie......................... 17.7

Below last season's ratings for "Fresh Prince" and "Blossom" (not that I care).

*** TUESDAY ***
ABC
: 24. "Full House" (ABC)................................................ 13.8
: 14. "Me and the Boys" (ABC)........................................... 14.9
: 1. "Home Improvement" (ABC).......................................... 21.6
: 3. "Grace Under Fire" (ABC).......................................... 20.5
: 19. "Coach - Tuesday" (ABC)........................................... 14.0
: 53. "Blue Skies - Tuesday" (ABC)...................................... 10.2

The "Home Improvement" giant keeps rolling along.

CBS
: 38. "Rescue 911" (CBS)................................................ 11.5
: 26. "The Disappearance of Vonnie" -- CBS Tuesday Movie................ 13.5

FOX
: 95. "Mr. Baseball" -- FOX Tuesday Movie............................... 05.1

Lowest rated show of the week. Curious to see how FOX's Roseanne movie
does here later in the season.

NBC
: 22. "Wings" (NBC)..................................................... 13.9
: 41. "The Martin Short Show" (NBC)..................................... 11.1
: 19. "Frasier" (NBC)................................................... 14.0
: 40. "The John Larroquette Show" (NBC)................................. 11.2
: 43. "Dateline NBC - Tuesday" (NBC).................................... 11.0

"Frasier" and "Wings" are doing well ("Wings" even won its time slot, barely);
now, if only NBC can get a stronger show between the two (now that Martin
Short is on hiatus).

*** WEDNESDAY ***
ABC
: 59. "Thunder Alley" (ABC)............................................. 09.6
: 39. "All-American Girl" (ABC)......................................... 11.3

: 11. "Ellen" (ABC)..................................................... 15.9
: 47. "Turning Point" (ABC)............................................. 10.7

"Thunder Alley" and "All-American Girl" are slightly up after getting thrashed
by "The Cosby Mysteries" and BH90210 the previous week (but "Thunder Alley"
still came in last in its time slot)

CBS
: 56. "The Boys Are Back" (CBS)......................................... 10.0

: 79. "McKenna" (ABC)................................................... 07.4
: 58. "PrimeTime Live" (ABC)............................................ 09.9

Big drop from previous week for "PrimeTime Live"; I guess they ran out
of Simpsons or Browns or Goldmans to interview. :)

CBS

: 43. "Eye to Eye with Connie Chung" (CBS).............................. 11.0

"Due South" doing well on a strong NBC night (ratings are up from previous
week)

FOX
: 78. "Martin" (FOX).................................................... 07.5
: 72. "Living Single" (FOX)............................................. 08.4
: 81. "New York Undercover" (FOX)....................................... 07.3

: 10. "Madman of the People" (NBC)...................................... 16.2
: 6. "E.R." (NBC)...................................................... 17.6

Strong as usual; unease at NBC about the big drop from "Seinfeld" to
"Madman" ?

Talk about consistency across the board; 12.5-12.8 for each show.

: 71. "Sweet Justice" (NBC)............................................. 08.6
: 52. "Sisters" (NBC)................................................... 10.3

Pretty low turnout for Gene Wilder's new sitcom.

I have a vague memory that I have seen here (or somewhere) a list of
Nielsens (or some equivalent kind of rating) for syndicated programming.
Am I just dreaming? If not, could someone tell me where to get them?

They are posted in some magazine (Cable & Broadcast News? maybe). No one
here has taken to posting it regularly. But if they did, I would love them
forever for it! ;>

This is the only cable syndication news I see online and it's just a
coincidence if there is actually a syndicated show here. This is
basically ratings for basic cable only.
Rankings for the top 15 programs on basic cable networks as compiled by
Nielsen Media Research for the week of Sept. 19-25. Each ratings point
represents 954,000 households. Day and start time (EDT) are in parentheses.
1. NFL Football (Sunday, 8 p.m.), TNT, 5.2, 4.93 million homes.
2. NFL Prime Time (Sunday, 7 p.m.), ESPN, 3.2, 3.01 million homes.
3. CFA Prime Time (Saturday, 7:30 p.m.), ESPN, 3.0, 2.82 million homes.
4. Movie: "Die Hard" (Wednesday, 9 p.m.), USA, 2.9, 2.80 million homes.
5. Movie: "Die Hard" (Sunday, 3 p.m.), USA, 2.3, 2.19 million homes.
6. Movie: "The Enforcer" (Tuesday, 10:05 p.m.), TBS, 2.2, 2.11 million
homes.
7. "NFL Gameday" (Sunday, noon), ESPN, 2.2, 2.10 million homes.
8. "Rugrats" (Sunday, 10:30 a.m.), Nickelodeon, 2.1, 1.99 million homes.
9. Movie: "Dirty Harry" (Tuesday, 8:05 p.m.), TBS, 2.0, 1.95 million homes.
10. "Murder, She Wrote" (Monday, 8 p.m.), USA, 2.0, 1.94 million homes.
11. CFA Prime Time (Thursday, 7:56 p.m.), ESPN, 2.0, 1.90 million homes.
12. Movie: "Haunting of Seacliff Inn" (Thursday, 9 p.m.), USA, 2.0, 1.89
million homes.
13. "Ren & Stimpy" (Sunday, 11 a.m.), Nickelodeon, 1.9, 1.85 million homes.
14. "Silk Stalkings" (Monday, 10 p.m.), USA, 1.9, 1.84 million homes.
15. "Rocko's Modern Life" (Sunday, 11:30 a.m.), Nickelodeon, 1.9, 1.84

Not "later in the season" (which implies much later), tomorrow (10/11).

I used to post them. I have to get the files moved from my home machine to
my work machine. Then I can start up again.

Current ratings are posted each week to rec.arts.tv and alt.tv.picket-fences
on Wednesday or Thursday of each week. The current ratings and ratings for
the past year are archived at the Tardis Archives Gopher in the UK.

Point your gopher at GOPHER.DOC.IC.AC.UK
Select MEDIA from the first menu
Select TV from the second menu
Select COLLECTIONS from the third menu
Select TARDIS from the fourth menu
Select LISTS from the fifth menu
Select NIELSENS from the sixth menu

I have seen and have received copies of the syndicated Nielsons from
friends I am no longer in contact with, so I know they *do* exist. It
seems strange that no one seems to know *anything*!!!

If so where? Is there a log of old rating too?

If they are not available on the Net, can someone suggest another
source. Other than Daily Variety.

Need more input..Number 5 is alive!

to do it when I can.

3. Oprah
4. Entertainment Tonight
5. Star Trek: TNG
6. Roseanne

10. Wheel of Fortune--weekend
11. Family Matters
12. Baywatch
12. Imagination I
14. Cops
14. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Thanks very much, Kay. Unfortunately, this hasn't helped me much. Does
Broadcast and Cable magazine give a longer list? Do they give ratings
numbers? If they do, I'll subscribe. I'm looking to follow the progress
of Highlander, Forever Knight, Renegade, and Hawkeye, among others.

Please let me know so I'll know whether or not to try to subscribe.

Yes, there are the numbers. But, the top 15 is all you'll get, since that
is all the B&C receives. Hopefully B&C will get the list expanded. I've
already discussed that with the editors. If enough people request an
expanded list, maybe B&C will get with it a get it done.
