Iconic Star Wars Actress Carrie Fisher Dies at 60: 'She Was Loved by the
World and She Will Be Missed Profoundly'

Carrie Fisher, the actress best known as Star WarsÅš Princess Leia
Organa, has died after suffering a heart attack. She was 60.

Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement to PEOPLE on behalf of
FisherÄ…s daughter, Billie Lourd:

Å‚It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her
beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,Ë› reads
the statement.

Å‚She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,Ë› says
Lourd. Å‚Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.Ë›

Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 23, when
she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics removed her from the flight and
rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a heart
attack. She later died in the hospital.

The daughter of showbiz veteran Debbie Reynolds and entertainer Eddie
Fisher, Fisher was brought up in the sometimes tumultuous world of film,
theatre and television.

Escaping Hollywood in 1973, the star enrolled in the Central School of
Speech and Drama in London, where she spent over a year studying acting.

This has not been a good year to be a celebrity. I blame Trump. Why is he still around? Well, the year's not over yet, so let's hope.

My condolenses to Debbie Reynolds and the rest of her family. Given the damage
she did to herself, living to age 60 was probably miraculous.

He sends out bad karma just by being who he is, does what he does and says what he says. Now you know why he can't get celebrities to perform at his inauguration.

So do you and you have about the same amount of class.

A thread about an iconic actress dying and you make it about politics and
Trump? Most people have to really work to be the type of asshole that you
manage with seemingly no effort at all. I'd think you'd be a big fan of
his.

I'm glad that she died. My biggest worry since the news hit was that
they had 'saved her' in a way that would leave her suffering for years
with diminished mental capabilities and bedridden.

Afaik, a permanent vegetative state is 'stable'. I think the
speculation above sounds reasonable, and, accordingly, I'd hope (against
hope) there'll be no further press inquiry.

There's that obsession thing again.... You may want to consult a mental

election of Donald Trump caused the death of Carrie Fisher. Pack a
toothbrush and some spare pajamas: I think they're going to want to put
you somewhere special where they can treat you.

If you genuinely believe that the election of Donald Trump actually
caused the death of Carrie Fisher, you too may be suffering from TDS.
Think about it. Would you be comfortable in telling a mental health
professional, in all seriousness, that the election caused Carrie Fisher
to die? Do you really think they would listen to that claim and whatever
justification you have for it then nod solemnly and tell you that you
are absolutely right? Or would they suggest a course of treatment to
help align you with reality?

Trump the Chump being elected has caused many people lots of stress ...
stress can cause heart attacks ... therefore it is technically possible
that Trump the Chump being elected could cause Carrie Fisher (or anyone
else) to have a heart attack.

BUT the Silly Season is a time of increased stress and heart attacks
anyway.

I was hoping she'd come out of it, Jerry Garcia went into a diabetic coma
in 1986, and stayed there for five days, yet did recover (however slowly).

But you're right, given the choice of a diminished life and death, it is
probably best that she died.

I mentioned previously that a friend of my mothers had had a heart attack,
at the top of the stairs, and thus fell down. I'm not sure the heart
attack was fatal, but falling down the stairs was what killed her. A
different roll of the dice would have left her in really bad shape, but
alive.

But the "condition" stuff is medical, and I think it's more about how much
attention a patient needs, rather than the outcome.

So someone can be "critical" because a lot of effort's expended at that
point, and a lot of monitoring, and then become "stable" but it doesn't
mean things are better.

I wasn't trying to be dismissive. I mentioned she was in The Blues

Since I've not seen any of them, didn't know till she died that she was in
the more recent one, that doesn't count.

Lots of actors have a few roles, and you can remember them and yet if they
die their impact isn't that much for the public. Maybe it is because it
was Star Wars, maybe it's something else, it matters to me more than most
of the celebrity deaths of this year, certainly the ones that are getting
the attention right now.

Maybe the local stormtrooper troop decided to go and visit her, and in her
state she thought Darth Vader had called for her.

But seriously, it was a bit funny to see some interviews with local
people, and one was dressed like an admiral in the Empire's navy,
apparently a member of a group that dresses up in that fashion.

Sure, somebody has to do it, but if you're dressing up, you'd think people
would want to go with a more significant character.

Umm... BLUES BROTHERS!

No woman has ever held a rifle better in all of cinema history.

The new ones (the lazy reboot that is so-called Episode VII onwards)
certainly don't count ... but Carrie Fisher was part of the storyline
for JarJar Abrams' next two crappy movies, so they'll either having to
do some story editing or more CGI face-work (as for Tarkin in equally
bad Rogue One).

She was also in the awful {whisper}Star Wars Holiday Special{/whisper}
and, from memory, the Star Wars episode of The Muppet Show.

Her tell-almost-all memoirs are also the reason for her more recent
infamy.

For once I agree with you, Thanny. She had one of the best scenes in
the movie.

It's worse, the sun dries people out, so they look and walk like zombies,
but they are still the living.

They're called mummies because males don't tend to live as long, even
the world of the undead. ;-)
