The same reason they reboot *everything* ... Hollyweird these days is
simply infested with lazy, talentless morons. :-\

There is also the element that this is another property Marvel farmed
out prior to the creation of their own studio, and in order for the
rights to not fail back over to them the studio that owns the rights has
to turn out a new one every so many years. After the last one was a
trainwreck (as a teenage reader of the comics from issue #1 back in the
'70s I actually thought the original was decent, for what it was) I
guess they figure starting over from scratch is the way to go.
That seems to be the pattern with these things: "Fantastic 4" and
"Spider-Man" followed the same pattern, though the latter only because
the original contracts expired and they figured if they had to go with a
new cast and director they may as well start over from an earlier point.
Ironically, they didn't only went further back in the titular
character's story, without making him noticeably younger than the Tobey
version.
