If you could get a response from an editor
I would be curious why and how they still
run the strip after all these years.
It is apparently still offered in some foreign markets
(Canada's Toronto Star Syndicate for example:
http://www.tsscontent.ca/comics/content__1/print_content#childnode_91 )
but is not offered, AFAIK, for U.S. consumption;
the Herald (Sunday only?) being an exception.
When the Daily Ink Archivist did a post about the strip
last year it was noted that Redeye ended with Casson's death.
http://blog.dailyink.com/2012/07/11/ask-the-archivist-a-shot-of-redeye/
That article noted that Redeye creator planned
for the strip to end when he retired, with Bess
even drawing a last strip, shown in the post.
"Bess did the strip until his health declined in 1988, and he decided to end the strip with the Saturday, May 21, 1988 installment, showing a beleaguered Redeye finally escaping his own strip. But King Features had other plans, and the strip didn’t end."
Let us know if you can get an answer from the Herald.
