Dust himself says in that issue that he was never one of the X-Men,
only that he met them and if I'm remembering correctly he said or
hinted that he didn't meet them until the late 1990's. Therefore he's
not Gambit, plus his powers aren't bery mgAuch like Gambits.

Abyss just told me that Dust was either Cannonball or Cable, but since he
psychically blasted those guards, I'm more inclined to think Cable.

Also, when did Cable step out of his mercernary days to meet up with the X-
Men?

(What decade are the X-Men supposed to be in, anyway?)

I suppose that Dust could be Cable, however, his withered look is somewhat
strange, but perhaps he psychically shielded his appearance, again.

Hmm, he's also got that pendant, which looks sorta like the Askani one.

Oh, well, if X-Men / -Nation 2099 ever pulls itself out, I'll look into it.

Not that it was ever proven.

In article <Pine.A32.3.91.960519...@aix2.uottawa.ca>,
s103...@aix2.uottawa.ca says...

Just to add my two bits in, this is my take on the Dust character. He met
the X-Men, and "couldn't stand with them" for some reason. Makes references
to Bishop, and such. He COULD be Gambit, but I would think a more likely and
obvious choice would be none other than Nate Grey. The only real reason for
thinking it was Cannonball or Cable was the "Are you Ca--" which was
interrupted by Dust.

Cannonball has never displayed those types of abilities, and Cable is FAR
too old, and has never actually been shown to have any sort of immortality, a
la External. But Nate Grey makes perfect sense. He's young now, about 18, and
will probably learn to control his powers so that they don't kill him. I
guess it remains to be seen.

Sorry. I created Dust, and he's neither -- he's just some loser
mutant who never had the guts to join the X-Men in the late 20th
Century.

I'll personally be amazed if the writers/editors actually stick with that.
It'd be truly easy to set Dust up as Nate Grey. (but NOT cable). Imagine
that, though -- a mutant who's met the X-Men, and actually retained some
character depth. Amazing. :)

Must be Pete Wisdom then...he's the only loser mutant *I* know of who
didn't have the guts to join the X-men :-)

It'd explain that, "Are you Ca..." line. Sure, no mistake about it. No glinting TO
arm, or anything.

Warren's origional post has yet to arrive here, so, I'm hijacking
somebody else.

I would think that dust showed a remarkable amount of self preservation
then. I it may take guts to join the X-Men, but avoiding them at all
costs would seem to be a much smarter move.

The true question is- was Dust lame enough to join Alpha Flight instead? :)

We know, we know. I received Ellis' post, earlier, but apparently, thanks to
USENET propagation, it hasn't reached everyone else reading this thread.

Guys, he's not ANYONE!

Warren Ellis said so himself. Of course, Marvel can always retcon it,
but dammit, dust is..well..dust..

(I've been waiting days to use that pun)

He's right up there with Daredevil 2099 in terms of historical
relevance and background.
