ELLIS: Captain America 2099

Warren,

Captain America on the cover of "Doom 2099" four months ago reeled me in,
and now I can't stop reading.

But I have to tell you that I'm very, very scared with the way Cap's been
handled in the book. He CAN'T be the real thing.

I've been a Cap fan for years, and he's never, ever been handled right... up
until Mark Waid took over. And now, on the dawn of a potential Cap Renaissance,
you and Grant Morrison (in "Skrull Kill Crew") are making him into a villain
and a puppet, respectively.

Cap 2099 would be such a wonderful addition to the 2099 universe. Among all those
dark, depressing heroes, he would stand out as a shining example that there's
still hope, still things worth fighting for...

Whoops... getting a little preachy here... all I wanted to say was: Don't
ruin Cap. Please.

Hey Warren,

How about following up on this post via e-mail AND a post. I'd like to see what you have
to say about Cap 2099. We are all wondering what's going on with this non-Cap. We know
he's a puppet, but is it REALLY Cap?

Questioning minds want to know!

..you'll never know, I left the book before resolving that one.

I never *intended* to leave the book before resolving it, but,
then, I didn't intend to leave the book for another year. Things
happened (that I won't speak about here, so don't ask). So,
sorry, but that one's down to the new writer, Tom Peyer.

Hi Warren,

I have two MORE questions for ya; one about Cap 2099 and one
about the comic industry in general. First, when you leave a book, do
you talk to the new writer about what's in the offing and the direction
of the book and stuff?? Secondly, Since it's not gonna happen, could you
tell us what YOUR plan for Cap 2099 was :).
