Aa! Megami-sensei

Introduction (10/7/95)

By Peter L. Ward

Here is the introduction to my first fan-fiction series, Aa! Megami-sensei,
which is a kind of crossover between Aa! Megami-sama and Ranma 1/2 thrown in
a Teenagers From Outer Space (TFOS) setting. To summarize the concept, the
story revolves around Urd, who is pressured to take a job and winds up as a
high school chemistry teacher. However, the job happens to be at Furinkan
high, and things aren't exactly peaceful there...even for Furinkan standards.
Basically, the aliens have arrived en masse and started sending their kids to
the schools on earth (the TFOS link). All this makes for a recipe for chaos
that no one could ever anticipate.

The whole idea stems from a TFOS/Star Riders campaign that I'm running
currently. It started with the question of who would make a high school
graduation trip in space really chaotic. The answer of Urd came rather
quickly, but there was the matter of rationalizing the whole idea of Urd
being in charge of a whole bunch of high school graduates on a trip lost
in space. Eventually, it was decided that she would be the teacher in
charge of the trip, and later on, the Furinkan elements were added.

Aa! Megami-sensei is the prequel to that storyline, centering around Urd's
year as a teacher at Furinkan and how the students cope with both her and
the new arrivals. Most of the action will center, not on Akane and Ranma's
class, but on Nabiki and Kuno's class as they face a senior year. Admittedly,
this will play some havoc with official storylines in both of the anime/manga
series involved, but that can't be helped. Such is the nature of fan-fics,
especially any crossover.

As long as demand and feedback is good, I may take this series all the way to
26 "episodes" before leading on to a sequel series based on the TFOS campaign
mentioned above, "Space Bus Experimental Heavenly Express". I hope you as
the readers of the fan-fics, especially those who are Aa! Megami-sama and
Ranma 1/2 fans, enjoy the series.

Some Concepts Explained

Since the storyline originally stemmed from a TFOS/Star Riders campaign, some
items do need to be explained.

TFOS is a role-playing game (RPG) revolving around the idea of aliens running
across our world, finding it to be the coolest spot in the galaxy, and moving
into the neighborhood. Naturally, this means that the alien kids would be
going to the same schools as human kids. As you can tell, one of the major
influences on this was Urusei Yatsura. It's a great comedy RPG that's simple
to play. I highly encourage the reader to seek this game out if they are
into role-playing games and want something light-hearted. It's put out by
R. Talsorian Games (the same folks who put out the Mekton and Cyberpunk RPGs).

While Aa! Megami-sensei won't deal with this too much, Star Riders is a sequel
to TFOS put out by Ianus Press (the folks behind Protoculture Addicts, Heavy
Gear, and the Project A-ko RPG). It basically takes the teeners from TFOS,
graduates them from high school, and strands them out in space when the earth
disappears while they're away. Like I said, Aa! Megami-sensei will not deal
with this too much and only a few passing references to this will occur (such
as the galactic government being the "Dadourunrun Conundrum Empire")
Heavenly Express, if I ever get around to that series of fanfics and if there
is enough interest in it, will be in this setting.

One of the ideas common to both games and which will be exploited heavily by
this series, is the Human Fake Out. In both games, it is an ability that all
humans automatically have. Ever wonder how humanity was able to get all that
alien technology in exchange for pop culture? Simple...the aliens were so
enamored by human culture (even worse than the Zentran in the original
Macross) that whatever any human said was cool, they did it. Even if that
human was Gosunkugi Hikaru, there would be some alien, somewhere, that would
be even less cool than he was and would do anything Gosunkugi would say.
Needless to say, Nabiki will be exploiting this to the utmost... ("Well, it's
customary for humans to charge their friends 20% interest compounded daily!")

The New Students

While the characters from both series who appear in this fan-fic need little
introduction, I'll be putting in new characters that'll be unfamiliar to the
vast majority of the readers. Names are given name first, family name second
unless they're Japanese (marked with a (J)). After the name will be what kind
of character they are, either human or some type of alien (Near Human, Not
Very Near Human, or Real Weirdie per TFOS) and what gender the character is.

Without further ado...

Akagami Tetsuo (J) - Human male

The biggest skirt-chaser in the class, Tetsuo is also the slickest guy on
campus. He easily gets dates with both his good looks and how cool he is.
A lot of those dates, however, tend to be one-shot affairs because of two
factors. One is that he is fickle and the word "fidelity" is not in his
vocabulary. The other is that he tends to be, well, aggressive while on
those dates, pushing his companion away as he tries to take advantage of any
given situation. The most he gets, usually, is a slap in the face.

Tetsuo tends to look like your typical Kennichi Sonoda male character...
heavily moussed hair, shades, etc. and tends to dress stylishly off-campus.
Even while in uniform, he tends to look stylish.

Amano Buffy (1/2 J) - Near Human female

Buffy Amano has an interesting history behind her. She's actually half-
human and half-alien. Buffy's father, Hikaru Amano, was a Japanese astronaut
that was lost in space due to equipment malfunction. His capsule was
recovered by a Hakane scout ship, crewed by a Mirai Azaka. Not allowed to
return Hikaru to earth due to something like Star Trek's Prime Directive,
Mirai took Hikaru to her homeworld, since it was occupied by a race of
amazons. Eventually, the two fell in love, married, and Buffy came from that
union.

Buffy spent most of her life on her mother's homeworld. However, she gained
a sense of honor from her father, and thus became a loyal and protective
person. This is not to say that her mother had no influence on her. Due to
her mother's race being amazons, she grew up being rather violent at times,
and has gained some skill in martial arts.

When earth was finally "discovered" by the rest of the galaxy, Mirai and
Hikaru decided that it would be best that Buffy got a chance to see her
father's homeworld firsthand. As a result, she was transferred to spend her
senior year at her father's alma mater, Furinkan high school in Japan.

Buffy is about 6'2"; has long, wavy pink hair; dark-blue-on-light-blue eyes;
and tiny black horns. She has an athletic build and tends to wear clothes
like tunics and tights off-campus. While not at home with her paternal
grandparents or at school, she hangs out at the Tendo dojo due to her
interest in martial arts, and tends to hang out with Nabiki and Akane.

Suzie Cabbit - Not Very Near Human female

Another of the alien transfer students at Furinkan high, Suzie is a fun-
loving Khel'azi and one of the popular students in her class...well, maybe
not popular with Saotome Ranma due to her feline appearance. She loves to
hang out with the guys and is a major flirt, enjoying playing mind games
with the guys. Suzie also finds human ways intriguing and is always out to
learn new things.

Suzie is one of the shortest (if not *the* shortest) students at Furinkan,
being 4' (4'5" with her mane). She is, as mentioned before, feline in
appearance, but is upright like a human, has longish ears that stick out
straight to the sides, and a long, flowing, mohawk-like white mane of hair
and brown fur. Her favorite color is teal or turquoise, and she hates both
water (messes up the fur) and short jokes. Anyone either getting her wet
or cracking a short joke gets a nasty swipe from her claws.

Dozul Hegaba - Not Very Near Human male

Introverted even for a Mohadi, Dozul is hardly seen outside of classes, home,
or the science fiction club on campus. The reason is simple...he is an
otaku. He tends to spend time watching mecha-based shows, building mecha
models, and designing his own mecha. If approached by anyone, he tends to be
rather shy (unless it has anything to do with his favorite subjects).

Dozul looks like a humanoid mole and isn't in shape. He tends to wear sweat-
suits outside of school. He's usually hanging around Mackie and trying to
come up with new equipment for him.

Ishikawa Mariko (J) - Human female

One of the more aggressive students at Furinkan high, Mariko is the school's
track star, as well as a good all-around athelete. Aside from track and
field, her favorite team sport is softball. While happy out on the sports
fields, she can be a bit irritable off of those fields. Usually, those who
are also atheletes of any sort, or at least shows some interest in sports
fall on her good side. Push her far enough, and one might find a softball
bat (usually an aluminum one) imbedded in their skull...

At 5'8", Mariko is quite tall and has a naturally athletic build. She keeps
her hair in a style similar to Tendo Nabiki's, but a bit longer. When
not in uniform, she prefers sporty clothes, and tends not to like dressy or
formal clothing.

Joat-Mon Kil'tar - Not Very Near Human male

Joat-Mon is often described as a prankster, but his teachers tend to prefer
the term "troublemaker". He usually pulls off stunts to pass the time or to
get a reaction from the people around him. However, he tends to think after
he acts, and this has gotten him in trouble on plenty of occasions. Those
closest to him (few that there are) tend to suffer less from his actions, but
that's not saying much.

He was one of the first aliens to move to earth. Actually, make that "be
moved" since his parents sent him there as soon as the aliens "discovered"
earth, if only to be rid of him for a while. Due to his longer time on earth,
he was able to build some resistance to the Human Fake Out (anything a human
says must be true...after all, humans are the coolest race in the galaxy).
However, it isn't fool-proof and he likes to practice up on it from time to
time.

When confronted with an unfamiliar device, he'll get curious and try to mash
buttons, flip switches, etc. to try and get it to work in some way. If all
else fails, he'll actually sit down and try to figure it out in a logical
manner.

Joat-mon is a 6'3"-tall Sefelinediovoureocity, which is a tiger-morph with
large bat-like wings (about 14' wingspan with both wings)...another character
that's real popular with Saotome Ranma. He has white fur with black stripes
and purple eyes. He usually wears a black t-shirt, black jeans, and black
shoes when off-campus.

Billie Kraftwerk - Human male

The Kraftwerk family has long been masters of their crafts in anything
mechanical. Billie's grandfather, Vilheim, invented the angular frame, one
of the forerunners of the linear frame used in today's mecha. Billie's uncle,
Damiel, is assisting Professor Minoffsky in very promising research in cold
fusion and magnetic bottles. Lisl, Billie's cousin, is working on biological
computers and is acknowledged to be one of the rising stars in her field.
And no one even knows what Billie's younger brother Ivan is doing, save that
it's classified.

And Billie? He can't pass pre-calc math. He can cobble together anything,
as well as hack and modify gizmoes. But it's all innate. He had the devils
own time getting through trig. Geometry was easy for him - when the teacher
wasn't looking, he put together an origami compass and derived the angles and
proofs he couldn't remember. But pre-calc is all memorization and that's one
thing he's lousy at.

Billie was sent to Furinkan high via the foreign exchange program in hopes
that his math skills would improve. His parents have threatened him with
math camp if his grades didn't improve...

Billie is 5'6 and wears his brown hair in bangs. He wears glasses, and has
no fashion sense whatsoever. He usually wears mis-matched preppy-style
clothes off-campus and carries an expanding briefcase instead of the usual
school bookbag.

RXF-95 "Mackie" - Real Weirdie male

One of the biggest egos among the male students, RXF-95 (known as Mackie to
his fellow students) is hot-headed. He also loves to show off, especially
his all-new mechanoid body based on the VF-19KAI Fire Valkyrie from the
recent series Macross 7. Unfortunately for everyone around him, he also loves
to play guitar...badly. He's rather ignorant as to how bad his guitar playing
is and is always willing to show off his dubious skills. Mackie hopes to be
as good as his older sister, RXF-87 "Kayla", who's the skilled bassist for
the rock band "The Nomads."

Mackie doesn't really need a description, since he's basically a 6' version
of the Fire Valkyire. He is usually seen carrying around a guitar case,
always ready to give anyone a sample of his skills. He also hangs around
Dozul Hegaba, since Dozul designed his current mechanoid body and provides
new equipment from time to time.

Kiddy Sazan - Near Human female

The school's little miss cyberpunk, Kiddy loves to crack computer systems
and tap into communications setups. She doesn't do it out of malice, but
for the challenge and for the info to be dug up. Due to sharing a common
interest in information, she forms a team with Takaya Michiko known as
the "Info Babes," with her as the technical expert while Michiko handles
the human aspects of info gathering.

Kiddy is a Watari with long, spiky pink hair and pointed ears. While off-
campus, her wardrobe consists of t-shirts and jeans for most occasions. She
gets along well with most people. Far from being a stereotypical hacker
(despite her nickname), she is a pretty social person and does have an
interest in the opposite sex...though she is a bit shy in that area.

Takaya Michiko (J) - Human female

The number one source for gossip at Furinkan high, Michiko is very popular
with the passengers and faculty due to her skill with the grapevine. Even
though she's a gossip, she's never malicious with it and always serves it up
with a smile. Because of this and the fact that she treats everyone equally
(i.e., she gets the dirt on everyone), she remains popular instead of being
shunned by everyone...after all, everyone wants the dirt on someone else!
She is one half of the "Info Babes" and deals with the human and social
aspects of their "information gathering" while Kiddy Sazan, her partner, digs
around on the computer and communication nets.

Michiko is average-height and has long, curly hair and pleasant, smiling
features. She's usually dressed up off-campus in more feminine outfits,
and is trying to give Kiddy help with her wardrobe.

Tanaka Rika (J) - Human female

Rika is considered one of the dreamers in her class. She's an aspiring
singer, and has some talent in that area. However, she's unwilling to step
on other people as she presses towards her goal, and is rather kind to others.
She is realistic enough to know that the music industry is tough to get into,
she's also studying literature for a backup career in the teaching field.
Her studies in literature, poetry in particular, gave her inspiration for her
own songs, and has molded her into the idealist that she is.

Rika is average-height with attractive features; long, straight hair; and a
slender build due to her years of studying dance as well as music and
literature. She has a calming influence on the people around her, which is
especially handy with the likes of Buffy, Mariko, and Mackie running around
campus.

Tategawa Minoru (J) - Human male

One of the more popular students at Furinkan high, Minoru is the best among
the school's few drivers. Whether it be a car or motorcycle, he loves to
tear up the roads in it. Not content with merely driving vehicles, he loves
to tinker with them as well, trying to push the machine even further in its
performance. He's been approached by several college motor clubs, including
the one at Nekomi Institute of Technology, to join up once he enters college.

Minoru is average height for a male with his hair in bangs over the forehead.
Off-campus, he's usually wearing t-shirt, jeans, goggles, and a leather
jacket.

Special thanks to my players, who created some of the characters above:
