Well, this would technically be the start of my third fanfic. The second
fanfic to the date of this prologue was halted halfway in chapter 2 out of 7
due to wanting to actually create my own story instead of having a whole bunch
of funny stuff happen but in the end nothing changes. It was like a Seinfeld
episode. You can read my first fanfic "Back to the Ice" and you'll see that
nothing changed in the end. Still it was pretty damn funny if you could catch
all the jokes. Anyways good luck to me and hopefully you'll enjoy this.

Waiting for Ranma

Prologue
=====================

Genma kneeled while facing the sunset. He sat his son down on his knee and
looked off into the distance for a few minutes.

"Ranma my boy," said Genma. "This is important so listen up, okay?"

Ranma managed to mumble an "okay" in-between bites of his okonomiyaki.

"Which do you like most; Ukyo or okonomiyaki?"

"Umm... Ucchan!"

* * * * * *

A small smile appeared on Ukyo's face.

<If only Ranma had known.. and if only he wasn't thinking with his
stomach.>

"Ucchan..."

"Hey Ucchan! Wake up!"

"Huh?"

Ukyo opened her eyes and realized that she had fallen asleep while doing
her homework.

"Guess you didn't get much sleep last night didya Ucchan?" said Ranma with
a smile.

"Nah," she replied. "Had to do some extra cleaning in the restaurant.
Friday nights are pretty busy you know."

Ranma was no expert at homework but then again, neither was she. Still she
enjoyed his company as they both worked on their math assignment. Second year
algebra. She could've done without this class but it was still a requirement.

"So, what did you get on problem 18?"

Ukyo stretched and gave a small yawn. She looked at the clock on the wall.

"How long was I asleep?"

"I dunno, about 15 minutes. Decided to let you sleep some so that I could
catch up."

Ukyo looked down at her paper. Problem 28. At least she was almost done.

"Um." She quickly looked over her math until she found the answer. "Three
and negative three."

"Thanks Ucchan," said Ranma. He found that he had gotten the right answer
yet again. Today was his lucky day.

"So what is Akane doing today?"

"Oh, sounded like she was cooking pot-stickers or something in the kitchen.

A little oil, some salt, that kind of stuff."

Ukyo smiled a bit. She knew what Akane was trying to cook and it sure as
heck wasn't pot-stickers. Ranma would have to thank her later for dragging him
out of the house before Akane finished her.. cooking.

The next problem was a word problem. At least those weren't too difficult
for her.

-- If Kenji has 2 different types of curry, 3 different types of
okonomiyaki, and 4 different types of soba, what are the odds that he would eat
an okonomiyaki if he chose a dish at random. --

Great she thought; more food. If only the problem was a bit more simpler.

Ukyo picked up her pencil and started to rewrite the question. She;
however, made a few slight adjustments to the problem.

-- If Ranma has 2 different types of curry made by Akane, 3 different types
of okonomiyaki made by Ukyo, and 4 different types of soba made by Shampoo,
what are the odds that he would eat an okonomiyaki if he chose a dish. --

"Why that's easy, 100 percent!"

"Huh?" said Ranma.

She didn't notice that she had said it out loud.

"Uh, nothing Ranchan."

Ranma went back to working on his math problems while Ukyo looked at what
she had written. Three okonomiyakis. Akane, Shampoo, and herself. If Ranma
were to choose one...

She sighed and brushed the thought aside. Unfortunately, some things keep
coming back to you and you just can't seem to get your mind off of them.

"Um, Ranchan?"

"Hmm?"

"Have you ever, you know.. thought about who you were going to marry?"

Ranma looked up from his math homework and scratched the back of his head.

"Well I don't know, don't really think about it too much."

"Don't you wish you could just.. like settle down and take it easy?"

"Huh? Isn't it a little too early to get married at this age?"

"I didn't mean that. I meant like.. actually setting your mind on someone
so that you wouldn't keep getting nagged by your father, Mr. Tendo, Cologne,
Shampoo, and a lot of other people."

"Yeah, I guess so..."

Ukyo paused for a second to take a deep breath before asking her next
question.

"Do you think.. that it would work with.. with..."

<Come on you jackass. Just say it!>

"..with.. us?

"Well, I guess so," said Ranma. "I mean after all, I've known you for so
long and you can actually cook unlike that other fiancee of mine. And you are
rather.. uh..."

At this point Ranma notices that Ukyo is staring at him rather intently.

".. cute."

Ukyo smiled to herself. Maybe there was a chance after all. Only one last
thing left to try.

"Ranma honey, how about we make a pact?"

"Huh?"

"If neither of us are seriously considering marrying someone else after oh,
6 months from now, we'll get ourselves hitched."

Ranma just sat there; probably thinking. Ukyo wondered what she should say
next.

"6 months?"

"Not like married right then and there. I mean, we get married later but
you pro.."

Another one of those hard words Ukyo thought. Well, no way around them
this time.

"..propose to.. me."

She blushed slightly and watched Ranma as he thought it over for a bit.

Ranma wasn't an idiot. He looked at all the benefits that could've come
out of this decision.

- No more nagging from his dad or Mr. Tendo.
- No more fighting with Ryoga or Kuno, well considerably less fighting.
- Shampoo wouldn't keep glomping onto him.
- Cologne would quit trying to blackmail him.
- He wouldn't get hammered by Akane that much.
- He'd miss Kasumi's cooking. Wait, that was a negative.

<Hmm.. this is a tough choice.>

- He wouldn't have to eat Akane's food.

Ranma reached over and grabbed Ukyo's hand. With a smile on his face he
said, "Okay Ucchan, you got yourself a deal. If we both don't find anyone who
we really like after 6..."

<Six months? Oh man that's a long time. Akane's been cooking something
almost every day in that cooking class of hers too. Maybe three months would
be better for my health.>

"How about three months?"

"Okay Ranchan, we'll make it 90 days. Try not to tell anyone about this
pact of ours."

"Huh? Oh, sure."

Ranma went back to working on his math homework. Ukyo stood up and
casually walked outside of her okonomiyaki restaurant. After closing the door
she smiled.

"Ahh! Yes!"
