LEARNING TO LET GO

Ranma 1/2 is property and creation of Rumiko Takahashi, and whoever else...
I have NO money, so PLEASE don't sue me! Now, on with the story.

Chapter 1:
That's the way the cookie crumbles
* * *

"Akane, come on! Nobody in their right minds would eat your toxic cooking!"
Ranma yelled as he easily dodged Akane's mallet.

"Shut up, Ranma!" Akane yelled as she swung her mallet at the place where
Ranma had stood only seconds before. "You didn't even try them! How do you
know they weren't good?"

"Akane, when HAS your food ever tasted good?" Ranma asked angrily.

"WHAT! WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?" Akane demanded, her battle aura flaring.
"RANMA YOU JERK!"

"Oh great, not again." he exclaimed as he watched the mallet come crashing
down towards him. Ranma released a cry of pain as it made contact, his head
throbbing.

Akane stalked angrily away, her homemade cookies clutched tightly in her
right hand. Her mallet seemingly disappearing, after finishing the task it
had been created for.

Ranma watched her go, a scowl quickly appearing on his face. "She didn't
have to hit me so hard!" he complained, rubbing the back of his head,
hoping to ease the pain. "That stupid tomboy! Why does she ALWAYS have to
make such a big deal over every little thing I say. I was just being
honest!"

Ranma glanced once more at Akane, as she faded off into the distance. Then,
looking around at his surroundings one last time, he tried unsuccessfully
to determine where he was. It was amazing the lengths he'd go to get away
from her cooking. He didn't really like insulting her, he tried to convince
himself. *Yeah, right.* he thought with a laugh. *Who the hell am I
kidding. I love getting her angry.* Ranma smiled at a vivid memory of
Akane. The way her eyes would light up, whenever he complimented her, or
was being nice to her. *She really is cute when she wants to be.* he
thought to himself with a smile. Ranma then picked himself off the ground,
where Akane's mallet had embedded him, and headed back towards the hotel.

* * *
Akane wiped away a single tear, clutching her cookies protectively against
herself. *Ranma, you jerk! I worked really hard on these cookies too! The
least you could have done was try them!*

Akane took out one of her cookies and angrily shoved it into her mouth.
Slowly, her eyes began to water and her face began to take on several
interesting shades of green. A few seconds later, she spit it out.

"Gee, I wonder what went wrong." she said confused. "I did everything the
recipe said to."

Akane stopped in surprise as she began to look around. She was in a small
forest that lay on the outskirts of Resanyo. Akane silently scolded herself
for wandering off alone. *This is all Ranma's fault! If he had just ATE my
cookies like I ASKED, I NEVER would have stormed off angry, and gotten
LOST!*

"Well, well! What do we have here?" A voice spoke up from the shadows,
interrupting her train of thought.

Akane quickly moved into a defensive stance, and began to survey her
surroundings. She released an exasperated sigh when she couldn't find
anything that looked out of place.

One by one a small group of men began to step out from the shadows. The
setting sun glinted off the armor that the men wore over they're clothes.
They seemed to be only a couple years older than herself. Akane quickly
counted how many of them there were, and realized there were about six in
all. Normally, that wouldn't have been a problem, but Akane noticed that
these guys looked a lot more skilled and powerful than most of the boys at
her school. It looked like some of them would be a good match for Ranma, or
Ryoga.

"She'll be perfect for the prince." A voice spoke up. Akane followed the
voice to a man who stood leaning casually against a nearby tree. "What's a
pretty girl like you, doing all alone in the woods by yourself?" he asked.

Akane surveyed the man. His long unruly hair, hung down his back and he had
cold, icy blue eyes. He looked to be about nineteen or twenty and had about
the same build as Ryoga. One thought raced through Akane's head, before all
the men advanced towards her.

*Ranma, where are you?*

* * *
"WHAT!" Soun yelled angrily, his demon head emerging. "YOU LET MY LITTLE
GIRL WANDER OFF ALONE IN A STRANGE TOWN!!!!"

Ranma threw his hands up in submission, hoping to calm him down. Genma,
Nabiki, and Kasumi looked on in amusement.

"I am so ashamed!" Genma announced, shaking his head sadly. "My son is an
ingrate! I get him a good fiancé, and how does he repay me? He loses her!"

"HEY! Now, wait just a minute! I didn't LET her go wandering off by
herself. She was angry at me for not eaten her cookies, so she stormed off!
I THOUGHT she was comin back here!" Ranma explained angrily.

"Well, maybe you should go out and look for her." Kasumi calmly suggested.

"My little girl is gone!" Soun cried, completely oblivious to everything,
as he ran back and forth in the hotel room, pulling out his hair. "Akane!
Akane!"

"Calm down, father. Akane will be just fine." Kasumi said reassuringly, as
she placed a comforting hand on Soun's shoulder. "Ranma's going out to look
for her now, aren't you Ranma?" she asked sweetly.

"Yeah!" Ranma spoke up quickly. "I'm going right now! Don't worry Mr.
Tendou, I'll find Akane and bring her back. I guess for once it's a good
thing she's a macho violent tomboy. At least we know she can take care of
herself. " he added casually.

"Your not helping Ranma." Genma stated flatly.

"RANMA!" Soun yelled, his demon head reemerging. "IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY
LITTLE GIRL....!"

"I-I was just kidding!" Ranma yelled, as he grabbed his small travel bag
and bolted out the door.

"Well, I just earned some extra yen." Nabiki stated casually, as she went
back to reading her magazine. "Who knew this would turn out to be such a
productive vacation."

* * *
Akane dodged another man as he came running towards her. In a moment of
desperation she grabbed her cookies and twirled the napkin tightly around
them, tying the top into a tight knot. Grabbing the napkin firmly in her
hand, Akane threw the cookies at the nearest person that was advancing
towards her. The small bag hit the man hard on the face, knocking him over.
*Wow!* Akane thought to herself impressed. *I didn't really think that
would work!*

Suddenly, Akane felt someone grab her arms, and pull them behind her back,
trying to keep her still. "Just do as we say, and you won't get hurt." the
man's raspy voice demanded, as he whispered into her ear.

Akane slowly nodded, nervously watching as the rest of the men began to
walk menacingly towards her..

The man that Akane had hit with her cookies, began to slowly get up, a look
of pure rage filling his eyes. *Um... maybe, I shouldn't have thrown those
cookies after all.* Akane thought to herself, worried.

"Regane, calm down!" The man that held Akane demanded. "We don't have time
for this, we have to get back to the prince immediately. I do believe he'll
be quite pleased with this one, though. Such fire." he stated, as he began
to move his hand past Akane's arm, and up towards her breasts.

Akane stiffened in shock at the man's touch, not sure whether to scream, or
try hitting him. After the initial shock wore off, Akane yanked her arm out
from the man's firm grip, and elbowed him in the stomach. Then, as the man
glared angrily at her, she quickly kicked him between the legs and ran.

"Don't just stand there you idiots!" the man yelled angrily, as he lay on
the ground in pain. "GO AND GET HER!"

The men gave reassuring nods as they headed off in the direction that Akane
had ran. A few men took to the trees, jumping from branch to branch.

Akane ran through the woods, not sure which direction would take her out of
the forest. Noticing, a small triangle of light that managed to seep
through the dense trees, she headed for it. Akane continued to glance
behind her, making sure no one was following her.

At that moment, she tripped.

Akane glared angrily at the large, tree root, that she had carelessly
tripped over. Akane slowly got to her feet, cursing herself as she began to
limp. Akane thought to herself disgusted. *Ranma's right, I am a klutz.*

Akane wiped away the tears that had begun to escape, angry that she
couldn't seem to stop crying. Akane complained, using the bottom of her
shirt to dry her face. *Now, I can't even see where I'm going. What am I
suppose to do now? If those guys find me I won't be able to fight them, or
runaway.*

"Ranma, you jerk. Where are you when I really need you?"

* * *
"AKANE?" Ranma yelled for what seemed like the hundredth time. "COME ON,
AKANE! WHERE ARE YOU?" Ranma paused for a second, trying to catch his
breath. "LOOK, I'M SORRY I WOULDN'T EAT YOUR COOKIES, ALRIGHT! IF YOU STILL
INSIST I'LL EAT THE STUPID THINGS!"

Ranma sighed in exasperation, sitting down on a large rock, that faced a
small pond. He had been looking for Akane for two hours now, and still had
no idea where she was. He was really starting to get worried. (Not that he
would ever admit it, of course.) Ranma picked a rock up off the ground, and
threw it into the pond, watching in satisfaction, as all the small fish
swam quickly away, trying to avoid being hit by the rock.

Ranma dragged himself off of the rock, and away from the pond, determined
to continue looking for Akane. "Boy, is she gonna get it, when I find her."
he muttered angrily.

* * *
Akane sighed in relief, as she finally made it to the small clearing. She
knew it was stupid to stand in the center, where the light managed to break
through the trees, but she couldn't help it. The longer she traveled around
in the forest, the colder she got. She gave a contented sigh as the warmth
of the sun quickly filled her, spreading throughout her body. The light
drifted down, enveloping her.

Akane turned suddenly, hearing a noise behind her. There, standing outside
the circle of light in the shadows, was Regane.

Akane did the only thing she could think of.

She screamed for help.

That was the last thing she remembered before the darkness engulfed her.

Author's Notes:

Well, this was my first attempt as Ranma fanfiction. So, if you didn't like
it... too, bad. I'm not going to make up some stupid excuses. Questions,
comments, or flames are welcome. (If you DO send me a flame, I can't
guarantee you, I'll read it.) Well, then again I probably will, and I'll
make fun of it. On second thought send me flames.

hope you liked it.
