"There are still three Angels left, Seele is starting to get
restless and still we know nothing about Saotome," Gendou stated, "I do
not like any unknown variables in the equation this late in time." The
commander of Nerv was seated within his office. His chin rested upon his
thumbs, giving him an appearance of thoughtfulness.

"Not true, sir. We know that Saotome is not a normal human-being
but he is not an Angel either. That would leave him somewhere in-between,
like Ayanami." Fuyuzuki answered.

"Are you sure?"

"No," Fuyuzuki shook his head. "So what are you going to do with
Saotome?"

"Nothing now. I have ordered Ryoji Kaji to find out as much as
possible about the Fifth Child. I have full confidence that he will
succeed. He has not failed me yet."

"So there will be no actions against Saotome for his insubordination
the night before?"

"For the moment," Gendou added.

"It seems to me that the more time Saotome spends here, the more
mysteries that seem to pop up about him and his origin."

"Not for long, not for long."

On both men's mind was a fragment of what Ranma had said, "Yui was
wrong...," and what had prompted Ranma to say such a statement. How Ranma
had known about Ikari Yui was still a mystery as they both wondered what
the Fifth Child's hidden agenda was.

* * * * *

Shinji could not sleep as his mind kept wondering back to the
previous night, where Asuka had not only given him a kiss but had been
daring enough to also bring her tongue into play.

*Does Asuka like me?*

*Why was it so intimate if she didn't like me?*

*Was she really that bored?*

*Was she jealous of Ranma and Rei?*

*Why am I attracted to Asuka? All she does is bug him constantly.*

*Why did I tell Asuka I liked her?*

*So many questions.*

These thoughts as well as others started to fill Shinji's mind,
making it impossible for him to fall asleep. By the time Shinji finally
dozed off, he had listened to the same music being played on his portable
cassette player four times.

* * * * *

On the other side of the wall, a young girl with reddish-orange hair
stared up at the ceiling above. Her name was Soryu Asuka Langley, Second
Child, and she was the pilot of Unit 02. Her thoughts were not plagued
with scenes of battle or death but of a strange young man located not far
from her current location.

*Am I falling for Shinji?*

*Why does he have to act like a wimp so often?*

*Why can't he act like the person I fell in love with?*

*Why can't he be the brave, confident young man that pilots Unit
01?*

Another voice started to come alive within Asuka, answering some of
her questions and leaving the rest for her to figure out.

*He is. Ever since Ranma's arrival, Shinji has been acting more and
more like the man you love.*

*Who are you, Ranma?*

*What are you?*

*Although I may never say this to your face, thank you, Ranma!*

*Now all I need is to make Shinji notice me more.*

*Should I be aggressive like in the past?*

*What would happen if he lost interest in me?*

Laughing a little, *Wish I had a picture of Shinji's face when I
french kissed him.*

*What about Kaji?*

*Am I over him?*

*Maybe.*

Making up her mind, *Sorry, Kaji.*

*Shinji is the only man for me now.*

*He just doesn't know it yet.*

* * * * *

Staring around the strange room, Rei couldn't sleep. She had just
recently moved in with Ranma and Akagi-sensei. A part of her felt joy,
being closer to Ranma, but another part of her was nervous. A week had
past since she had acquired the abilities to experience the full spectrum
of human emotions and she was still getting use to it. Not being able to
sleep, Rei stood up and headed into the hallway. Thinking back at an
earlier conversation she had with Ranma.

Ranma and Rei were standing on the balcony of Ritsuko's apartment,
looking up at the night skies.

"I can't believe you never felt emotions before, Rei," Ranma spoke
in disbelief.

"I am a clone. Although I retain the memories of Rei I, we, meaning
everyone who has been named Ayanami Rei, never fully understood what
humans call emotions."

"Why don't you consider yourself human?"

"Because I am a clone. I am also part Angel." Rei replied.

"You're also part human, with a human soul." Ranma explained.

A tear rolled down Rei's cheek. *Am I crying? Why?*

Wiping the tears away, Ranma embraced Rei, warming her against the
chill of night.

"Arigatou, Ranma"

*Why do I feel like this? Love at first sight. Is it because we
are so alike? Born to be a weapon and thought of as a possession.* Ranma
thought.* Giving Rei a squeeze of assurance Ranma returned his gaze back
into the night.

Sliding the door to Ranma's room open, Rei smiled as she stared down
at the peaceful face of the object of her desire, love and in part savior.
Careful not to wake him, Rei proceeded to lie down next to Ranma. After
Rei embracing the sleeping form, she promptly dozed off herself.

* * * * *

Being on the road with his Oyaji for ten years had instilled within
Ranma the basic principle of, 'If you can eat, eat and if you can sleep,
sleep.' Ranma was a master of both and was currently practicing the later.
Feeling the morning sun on his face, Ranma partially woke up. Seeing as
how it was Sunday and he had no school, he decided to sleep in. Without
his Oyaji to wake him, Ranma planned on staying in bed for another few
hours. He reached over and started to adjust his pillow. *This doesn't
feel like a pillow to me,* Ranma thought. Giving it a little squeeze,
*It's soft, round and very warm.* Ranma continued to examine his pillow
half asleep. Suddenly his sense of danger started to scream at him.
Opening his eyes, Ranma turned towards the position of his pillow to find
himself caressing Rei's right breast. Blinking a few times, he also
noticed that Rei's face was a little red. Hearing her moan, Ranma
screamed, "Arrrg!!"

* * * * *

That morning, Ritsuko was surprised to wake up before Ranma. *Hmmm,
Ranma is not up yet,* she thought. Ever since Ranma moved in with her, he
was the early riser. *Guess I have to make breakfast then,* Ritsuko
mentally complained. *I'm being spoiled by a fourteen year old boy,* she
shook her head.

After making breakfast, she went to wake Ranma up. When she was in
front of Ranma's room, she heard him shout. Rushing into the room, she
was shocked at the scene in front of her. Blinking a few times in
disbelief, "What are you doing, Ranma? Rei?" Ritsuko shouted. She
couldn't believe it. Rei was in Ranma's bed. One was dress in a very
thin night gown and the other only had boxers on. Seeing as how Ranma had
one of his hands on Rei's breast while she was blushing did not help
Ranma's situation any or Ritsuko's imagination.

Backing away from Rei as fast as humanly possible, Ranma forgot
there was a wall right behind him. Crashing into the wall stunned Ranma
for a few seconds. Usually this would not be a problem but he had just
woke up and was very confused at the moment. Adding this all together and
his sudden impact with the wall caused Ranma to pitch forward. The good
news was that he landed on something very soft. The bad news was that he
landed between two mounds of human flesh, barely covered by a piece of
cloth.

"Ranma! That will be enough!" Ritsuko scowled.

Rei opened her eyes when she first realized that there was a hand on
her right breast. At first, Rei wondered where she was until she saw
Ranma's sleeping face. Clearing her mind a little more, she remembered
what had awaken her. *What should I do?* Rei thought. Although Ranma
came very close to mirroring the exact same position she found herself and
Shinji in a few months ago, this time Rei did not feel uncomfortable. Rei
shivered as Ranma started to massage her right breast, sending tingling
sensations throughout her body. *This feels so good.* Rei couldn't help
but moan as Ranma continued in his endeavor. Hearing Ranma shout, Rei
quickly opened her eyes to find a very panicky Ranma. Rei smiled, trying
to calm Ranma down, that was until Ritsuko appeared and started to shouted
at both of them. A short time later, Rei blush a little more as Ranma
laid on top of her with his face nestled in between her breast. Rei
started to giggle as she felt Ranma moan.

* * * * *

Nearing the school, Rei turned to look at Ranma. "It's alright,
Ranma. There is nothing to apologize for." Rei spoke in a soft voice. She
was trying to reassure Ranma about this morning's incident after he kept
apologizing. "I was the one that sneaked into your room and slept with
you."

"Are you sure?" Ranma asked.

"Hai."

"I'm glad," Ranma sigh in relief. That was until he saw how many
people were listening in on their conversation. "It's not what you
think!" Ranma shouted in protest. Although it was Sunday, the school is
was a favorite hanging ground for most students.

"Is that so, Ranma?" Asuka asked. "Nothing happened then?"

The question caught Ranma and Rei by surprise as they both blush
while trying to deny everything.

*Of all the people to bump into, it has to be Asuka.* Ranma thought.

Seeing both Ranma and Rei blush, "Why are you blushing then?" Hikari
asked.

"What do you mean?" Ranma stammered.

"What did you and Rei do in bed together?" asked Asuka. *I finally
got you, Ranma. See how it feels to be on the receiving end for a
change.*

Turning to Rei, "So what did you and Ranma do?" Hikari asked.

Rei just blushed a little more.

Needless to say, Ranma and Rei did not have much privacy the whole
afternoon.

* * * * *

Ranma and Kaji were facing off with what soon came to be known as
their daily ritual. Kaji was the only person Ranma could find that was
even close to his skill level. What Kaji lacked in skill, he made up in
cunning.

"So how was your day?" Kaji asked, having blocked one of Ranma's
punches.

"Okay. Why?" Ranma asked.

"Heard that you were sleeping with Rei," Kaji replied with a smile.

"Urk! It's not like that." Ranma protested.

*Got him!* Kaji mentally cheered. It was rare that Ranma left an
opening. Closing the distant as quick as possible, he delivered a
jab-cross-sweep combination. "Who are you calling a Oyaji now, Ranma?" he
smirked.

Quickly recovering, "No fair!" Ranma protested. *Man I miss Oyaji
and my morning workouts.* Although Kaji was good, he was nothing compare
to his father.

"If you were not sleeping with Rei then why was she in your room?"

"She couldn't sleep and there is no way I'm falling for that trap
twice."

*Oh well, I had to try.* "So are you and Rei dating?"

"N...o...yes," Ranma finally answered. "You're not doing so bad
with Misato either."

"Oh no you don't. I'm not falling for my own trick."

"Any tips?"

"On what?"

"Uhh...dating."

*Pay back time!* "You can find everything you need to know in a book
I usually refer to," Kaji answered.

"What book?" Ranma asked very eagerly.

Calling a halt to their sparring match, Kaji whispered the name of
the book into Ranma's ear.

"Nani!!!" Ranma shouted in disbelief.

* * * * *

After spending time with his friends, Shinji decided to take a
stroll through the shopping district. He still could not believe the
rumors that were flying around school about Ranma and Rei sleeping
together. *Have to ask Ranma what's going on,* he thought. At this point
he noticed a familiar pigtailed boy inside one of the book store.
Entering the store, Shinji walked up to Ranma, "Hey, Ranma!" Seeing Ranma
jump up in shock was so funny that Shinji started to laugh.

Looking behind him, Ranma saw Shinji and sighed with relief. *Thank
you, thank you! It's only Shinji.* Putting on a happy face, "Hey, Shinji.
What are you doing here?"

"What are you doing? What is that book you have behind your back?"
Shinji had noticed that Ranma was reading a particular book and was
curious as to what it was.

"Book?" Ranma tried to conceal the book behind his back. "It's
uh...a cook book. I'm buying it as a gift for Rei," Ranma stuttered a
bit.

Not buying the excuse, Shinji smiled, "Come on, what is it?"

Sighing in defeat, Ranma showed Shinji the book he was reading.

Looking at the title, Shinji nearly fell on the floor laughing.
"Relationship for Dummies?" Shinji tried to get out between his fits of
laughter. The laughter was cut short as a city wide alert was sounded.
Looking at each other, both boys rushed out of the store to the nearest
source of transportation.

* * * * *

"We're here," Ranma informed Misato through one of the numberous
speakers scattered around Nerv Central. Sweat could be seen on the brows
of both individual as the rushed into the changing room.

"Hurry up and change. Rei is out there alone." Misato replied from
a speaker located above the heads of both pilots.

"Where are Asuka and Toji?" Shinji asked while trading his street
clothes for that of the plug suit.

"They're on their way but will not make it in time," Misato
answered.

Ranma was the first one suited up. "I'm going on up ahead. Hurry
up and meet me at the launching pad." Ranma shouted to Shinji as he
sprinted to his Eva. The would be the first time he had a chance to pilot
Eva Unit 04 and the second time he would be facing an Angel. *I will not
screw up like last time and let Rei down,* Ranma swore to himself.

Up in the control room, "How are you doing, Rei?" Misato asked.

The latest Angel was a long rope-like beam of energy. Everyone
could see the Fifteenth Angel avoid the rounds being fired at it by Unit
00 with ease. What made this Angel so difficult was that the Magi could
not find its core.

"The Angel is moving too fast to hit it," Rei replied as she
unloaded another round at the Angel.

"Hold on. Ranma will be there in less than 2 minutes."

"Hai!" Rei replied. As both Eva and Angel weaved and danced to the
music of death, two minutes seemed like an eternity. A single mistake
would be the judge of who lived and who died. Suddenly time sped up as
the Angel found an opening and streaked towards Rei.

"Evasive action, Rei!" Misato shouted.

"Too late!" Maya informed.

As the Angel made contact with Rei's AT Field, there was a slight
reddish shimmer at suggested the presence of Rei's field but that did
little good as the Angel passed through it and penetrated the Eva's armor.

"What is it doing?" Misato shouted.

"The Angel is contaminating the Eva," Maya answered.

"It must be trying to make first level contact!" Ritsuko supplied.

"The Angel is penetrating the Eva's defense barriers," Maya
shouted.

"This is not good. Already 5% has undergone bio fusion." Ritsuko
said.

"Arrrrrrrrrrrrr," Rei arched backwards as she moaned in pain.
Throughout the Eva's body, signs of contamination were visible to the
naked eyes.

Inside Rei's mind, an internal battle wages.

*Who are you?*

*Are you what we call an Angel?*

*Do you want to become one with me?*

*No, I am me and you are you.*

*You will be me soon.*

*Before I do, I want to share with you part of my mind.*

Outside, the situation looked hopeless.

"Misato, I'm ready. Send me up. Rei needs help." Ranma shouted.

"Launch Unit 04," Gendou commanded.

"What about possible contamination?" Misato asked in a worried
voice.

"Misato!!!! Hurry up!!!!" Ranma pleaded. *Hold on, Rei. I'm
coming.*

Turning to Maya, "Launch Eva!" Misato ordered. "Abandon Unit 00,
Rei!"

There was no response from Rei's Eva.

"Rei, hold on." Ranma encouraged. *There is no way I'm going to let
you die, Rei! You mean too much to me.*

"Ma'am, Ranma's sync ratio is increasing, 32%...46%" Maya shouted.

"Incredible!"

"59% and still climbing."

The had Angel sensed Unit 04's approach and responded in kind by
launching its other half which was not embedded inside Unit 00 at Unit 04.

Using his quick reflexes, Ranma was able to dodge the incoming
Angel's attack and edged his way closer to Rei's position. *The Eva is
moving faster than before but not fast enough. Move, stupid piece of
junk!*

"My mind and soul, to become one with Ranma," Rei struggled against
the pain. Seeing as how Ranma had no weapons, Rei made up her mind to
save the man she had fallen in love with. Straining, Rei tried to contain
the Angel within herself. Unit 00 folded into a fetus position.

"We have total contamination of Unit 00."

"She's trying to contain the Angel," Ritsuko shouted in
understanding. *She's trying to protect Ranma.*

"Eject, Rei." Misato ordered.

"I can't. If I leave the Eva, the AT Field will ease to be and I
will not let this Angel harm Ranma." Rei replied. Reaching back, Rei
activated Mode D, the self-destruct mechanism.

"Rei is going to self-destruct her Eva," Maya shouted.

"Noooooo!!! Don't Do it Rei!!!" Ranma plead. "Give me a little
more time to reach you." *I'm not going to make it,* Ranma realized.

"Goodbye, Ranma. I love you!!!" Rei spoke, tears flowing down her
face.

"I'm almost there. Give me a couple more moments," Ranma plead.

The commander center was completely silent as everyone watched the
final moments of the battle, each knowing there was nothing they could do.

A few seconds later, a blinding flash of light caused everyone to
cover their eyes.

"REI !!!" Ranma shouted.
