There has been some discussion in here concerning how much Ren and Stimpy
look like Ralph Bakshi's Mighty Mouse. There is a reason for this -- R&S was
created by John Kricfalusi. Kricfalusi worked as one of several directors,
under Bakshi, on Mighty Mouse. Bakshi was responsible for character designs,
and John created several of the shows that Bakshi produced. According to the
Winter 1998 issue of Animato magazine, in the interview with Ralph Bakshi, he
and Kricfalusi parted with some bad blood between them (Kricfalusi had given
an earlier interview where he basically claimed to that all of the good stuff
in Mighty Mouse was his, and everything bad had come from Ralph.)
So, Ren and Stimpy look like they were influenced by Bakshi's style because
they WERE influenced by Bakshi's style. You produce work for a man for a few
years, and you're stuff starts to look like his.

According to the same interview, Bakshi and R. Crumb also share bad blood.
Crumb hated Ralph's handling of his characters in Fritz the Cat, and refuses
to talk to Ralph anymore. Ralph also claims that most of his films would have
come out looking better if he had been given a better budget to work with, and
that usually the financial backers with withdraw their support so that he'd
have to cut corners just to get the film finished. That's why, supposedly, he
has used rotoscoping so extensively in the past.

Well, I just saw my first Ren & Stimpy [Fairytale and Big house Blues] and
loved it. This is funny, funny stuff. Alex Bennett at KLIV 105.3 San Fran.
was right. This is definitely worth checking out!
