I ordered two of these Cable Stop Hangers from Harris Cyclery. The
package came without any paper work, save for a basic receipt. Each
plastic bag contained the hanger as shown on the Harris site, but also
another doo-dad that I'm don't know what it might be for. Can any of
you who have used these hangers look at the photos and advise me?
Thnaks much.

I would say it's a REAR seatpost cable hanger such as this -

but it looks pretty fat.

Another image right off the Riv site of what it could be -

No, Benedict, it's not a rear hanger. It only has one tapped end, and no cable slot. William wa correct, I feel.  It's to mount a reflector.  It's nicely machined, however, and could be used to hack something.  I won't toss it. You never know…

Ray,

When you get this installed, can you post pictures, i'm thinking about
switching from a headset mounted hanger to a fork crown one but i'm
worried about clearance at the crown due to all the other things i
have mounted there.

You mean the front end of my Bombadil? Indeed, it has one:

The Nitto Mini rack in this case is the bolt.

ah. I wondering if these hangers were compatible with front racks. Good to know.

Hey Bill,

Sorry to drag up a post from four years ago. I was thinking about trying out a fork crown canti-hanger + mini front rack setup and searching the archives brought up your post with a link to a pic of your Bombadil. Nice to see you got it to work, and it doesn't look like it produced an extreme tilt on your mini rack, but I have some questions!

I guess you weren't that worried about the engagement of the nylock nut on the rack strut, but I'm wondering if a sheldon nut would help here? Or would a sheldon nut bottom out on the rack strut before securing it against the fork crown...? Also, did you have enough room between the hanger and the cable carrier to get a nice squeeze on the brakes?

Cheers,

Tom

Tom

No, this is not a good application for a Sheldon nut. The threaded post on the rack is too long. You'd need to cut it down and possibly would need to thread it further as well

Yes, I had enough room to set up the brakes to my liking. Let me know if you need any help.

Nice, thanks for the reply. I think I'll try it out, I'm only in the planning stage but I'll post again if I have difficulties!
