They were out of stock on the Tubus adapter for this, p clamps though I thing would have held felt like I don't know .. Just not good enough. One door jam bracket from Ace and it was solid. 5 buck fix. I would measure and drill and thread if it was the long term fix. For next weeks tour this will do,

Kelly:

No one will notice once you mount the bags :-). As to drilling, if
you are talking about the fork, Rivendell specifically warned me NOT
to do so on my Atlantis. Not always doing what I'm told, I did it
anyway, with the help of someone who's built a few bikes and knows his
way around a torch. Having mid-fork eyelets is a necessity for me.
They make putting things together at the beginning of a tour worth the
effort. Paint damage was major but a few brush coats of Testor's took
care of that, if you don't look too closely. OTH, if you only
occassionally need front bags, a couple of nice P-clamps with vinyl
coating are easier on the paint.

Not the fork.. I would drill and tap the strap, round the edges, start with bare stock and drill only the holes needed etc.  As it is I like it.  Very sturdy, just could have made it pretty.

I mounted it first with P-Clamps.. though they held a gallon of house pain in each pannier I could see them straining on the bumps over curbs and through the yard... I just wasn't comfortable... I'm sure you are right and they would work fine .. or I had weeny ones.. ;0
