Those of you who have used both, which is better? I am inclined toward
the Carradice (24 liters versus SM at 23+ when "stuffed") since SJS
has it for GBL 55.

Anyone?

Hi Patrick,
I briefly had a carradice, and it was fine. The sackville is better, though. By that I mean the general quality and the usability of the straps. Not to say the camper isn't good, it is, so you'd probably be a happy camper (har har) with either.

Howdy,

I have had both and found the quality of Sackville to be much better- materials and construction. The quality of the Carradice was good just not as good. Usability I thought was about the same- they are both bags that attach to you saddle and carry things. I agree that you would probably be happy with either.

Cheers!

+1 for the sackville large.
You ALWAYS need more room.
But if you have to chose between those two get the sackville. I find how the Carradice sits so the side pockets have the tendency for stuff to fall out. This could be my absentmindedness of me not strapping the sides. Rivendell's sackville fixes that problem with the extra flap dealie and having the sides pockets up.

I vote for the third party candidate, the Sackville Large!

Seriously, it's amazing.

Thanks for all the replies; the Sackville Medium seems the poll winner by a large margin. While realizing that, I've used many different Carradices including several Campers -- damn sure wish I'd kept one -- and know that it  works pretty well and at 2/3 the price ...

We'll see what the financial gods bring, or withhold. I'll pass on the Large: had a Hoss, which was very nice, but just too big for this bike; and I expect that the Sackville Large is even bigger.

I must say that I do like the look of the Carradices; and, again, favor of the gods, but I've very often left main compartment and side pockets open, with keys dangling dangerously at cavity lip, and never yet have lost anything.

That said, my preference at this point, money no object, is S M; money object: Camper, in green.

Any further comments welcome.

I love my long flap. I've packed it majorly full with a tent, poles, sleepingbag, clothes, and dinner for two on more than one occasion (bike camping with a roadie friend who made me carry everything).

I think it's great. if you pop it on a marks rack or similar small rear rack, it gets it more upright, not eliminating, but reducing stuff falling outta the sides. the construction may not be that of a riv, but it's like comparing ben Davis pants vs. carhartts. they're both fuckin burly as hell, just the latter will survive the apocalypse.

I say, for the price, jump on it. you'll be stoked!

SJS advertises the Camper, but they don't have any stock.  Neither does Wiggle, and when I tried to order one last year the delivery date just got pushed out further and further.  I finally decided to stick with my ancient Nelson Longflap.  Of course the Saddlesacks are also out of stock so it's kind of academic.

Wiggles' site says "mid October, maybe". Don't know. May well just get
another rack -- the fomenter of this ferment (so to speak) was growing
dissatisfaction with my custom rack: as in a marriage or a new car,
the little defects become apparent with intimacy including being a wee
bit off-center and placing a large pannier too close to my feet. We'll
see. A Tubus Luna may be the best solution, given that I've got
various panniers already. OTOH, I think there is room for a Hoss ....
Or maybe I should monogamously stick to the custom, for better or
worse, etc.

I have never seen the other Carradice saddle bags in person, but I
really like my Super C.
I chose it over the others for the convenience of the modern fittings
vs leather straps for commuting. The shopping experience was bad
enough that Evans stopped carrying most Carradice products and
refunded half of the cost. I use it with a Q/R bagman, more for the Q/
R than the support. Great bag and a system that works very well for
me.

Thanks, Jay -- the Super C is definitely a contender tho' it lacks the
long flap. I figure what, $140 or so shipped from Wiggle?

50 quid at SJS - Out of stock. Wiggle too.
Carradice makes great bags that are next to impossible to buy.

Peter: do you have the link or auction #? My searches for Sackville,
saddlebag, Rivendell etc don't turn it up.

Thanks, Patrick

Thanks, just bought it. (I think -- these damn' computer transactions
always leave me a bit confused.)

Seller: are you on list? If so, the "system" charged me $15.43 for
shipping even tho' the conditions on the auction page include "free
shipping for buy it now." Can you please refund the $15.43 via the
paypal address I used to pay you?

Thanks.

So, folks, all that sturm und drang is done, the waters are still, the
sky is clear, my anxieties are (mostly) put to rest, I am happy,
fulfilled, complete, satisfait, replete; my cup runneth over. I will
now go into my corner and contemplate my good fortune. Deo gratias.

evil.”
