What do you love about them?  What don't you love about them?

I'm writing this from the point of view of someone who loves mixtes. I like the way they look. I like the way they ride. I find it incredibly convenient not to have to throw my leg over the back of the bike every time I mount/dismount, particularly when I'm carrying stuff on the back or wearing a skirt. I really don't miss the top tube when I've ended up stopping suddenly due to traffic or in rough terrain.

I don't have to explain to you (or this group) why I like Rivendells. I have/had 2 vintage mixtes and much as I liked both of them, the Betty Foy is a far superior bike. I spent all summer and fall bombing around on 47 mm tires and had too much fun. I'd love to do several days on a rails-to-trails, mixed terrain type trip with it like that. Right now, as the photo shows, it's time for fenders.

I'm trying to think of something to say for the "what don't you love" part of your question. You do have to use an adapter bar-thingy to put it on a car rack, but that really isn't any trouble. The bar lives in our station wagon, and it takes seconds to put on.

I can only imagine how great Rivendell could make a custom "mountain mixte" for you. GO FOR IT!

I've always kinda wanted a Wilbury/Glorius when those came out years ago, but I guess I missed that boat. I like the mountain mixte idea. An ostentatious mixte with clearance for 26x2.4" with fenders! It's the only thing that makes sense!

I love my Betty because it's nice to commute with. With the step-thru top tube, it's easy to load up rear bags or panniers and not worry about having to swing the leg over. Also easy to maneuver the front of the bike around at street lights. Can't think of anything I don't like. Btw, congrats on the raffle!

Everything that's been said above. I steal my wife's Glorius for a ride whenever I can. No downside to it at all and I really like the step-through mounting vs. the swing-a-legaround mounting. Just a cool bike design!

Liesl,

I don't have any mixtie experience but you might do well to send an email to the author of this blog:

You probably know her bike from flickr.  It is that super tricked out pink custom riv mixtie.

I can't say enough about my Betty.  I love it.  I love everything about it.  It's such a good ride and can do everything.  There's a grey as well as blue now.  I have albatross bars, bar end shifters, Brooks saddle, fenders, rack.  I ride it every day every where.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger.  I bought one of the last remaining 58cm Betty Foy framesets at Riv this morning.  It might be months, or even years before I build it up, but I managed to buy it before the 58s are gone forever.  I'm really excited about it.
