Subject: [RBW] My Atlantis Retrofit

Well, I'm pretty much finished retrofitting my 51 cm Atlantis that I use for commuting to work and day tours (appx. 3500 or so miles). I ordered the frameset back in late 2002, and received it in May of 2003. That's back in the day when you could get a Toyo-built Atlantis for $900.00. It's a great bike, and even though it took me nearly ten years to get the fit right, and bring it up with all the bling I've always wanted but could never really afford, after moonlighting to bring in the extra money, it's almost done. Just gotta replace the BB with an SKF, and get some new VO green cable kits. Special thanks to Counterbalance Bikes in Seattle for installing fenders, rear rack, and breaks.

Here's the new build list:

* Rich Lesnick/Riv 26" 32-spoke Velocity Synergy wheel w/SON 28 generator hub (replaces Dymotec s6 sidewall generator)
* Rich Lesnick/Riv 26" 36-spoke Velocity Synergy wheel w/Phil Touring hub
* Schwalbe 26x1.5 Marathons (since winter of 2010)
* Paul Neo-Retro brakes up front/Touring Cantis in back, (replaces Shimano BR55 cantis)
* Honjo Hammered fendors (replaces original SKS fenders)
* Lumotec IQ CYO T Licht 24 mounted on left-hand fork blade (since winter of 2011; replaces older Lumatec Plus halogen lamp)
* Busch & Müller Seculite Plus (original since 2003) mounted on rear fender
* Velo Orange rear Constructeur rack (replace Tubus Cargo rack) for Baggins panniers and Baggins Hoss saddlebag
* Velo Orange Rackaleur for Baggins Hobo h'bar bag
* Sugino XD crankset, 46/36/24 (since 2003, replaced chainrings in winter 2010)
* Shimano HG HG40-8I 11-34 8spd cassette (replaced older 11-32 Shimano cassette in winter 2010)
* SRAM chain
* Shimano Deore rear derailor (since 2003), does the job well; no need to change it out
* Shimano 105 front derailer (since 2003), simple and does the job very well; no need to change it out
* Grip King pedals with pedal spikes
* Nitto Noodle bar
* Neubaums Grassy Green h'bar tape (made by Philadelphians and dyed with earth-friendly dyes), shellaced with a mix of amber and natural shellac.
* Nitto Crystal Fellow seatpost (since 2003)
* Nitto Technomic stem (since 2003)
* Nitto "R" water bottle cages
* Polar water bottles
* Plesher silver twin-legged kickstand
* Suntour Power Ratched barcons; a homage to bygone days
* CatEye Velo 7 wired cyclocommputer
* Brooks B-17 Special in green (original seat since first build)
* Brass bell

 Well that's as bling'd out as it can get.  Nice work!

Great looking bike.  I can't imagine a better touring or commuting bike than the Atlantis and you have done a super job of putting it together.  I followed a similar strategy with my Ram - bought the stock bike then upgraded components as my budget and desires converged.

Nice! You should mount the rear rack lower.
