UPS delivered my new AHH yesterday. Moustash bars, Jack Brown(greens)
and Grip King peddles. I got it together last night and adjusted out
this morning. I had previously signed up for a local ride several
months ago and decided why not go ahead and go. I was going to do the
65 mile leg but with no miles on the bike I did the 16 mile fun ride
as my first ride. Had a few long looks at the bike and one guy ask me
if it was an old style bike I could not resist and told him it was the
future. The AHH was a joy to ride. I can't say enough about the whole
experience and thanks to the crew at Rivendell for all the advice and
recommendations on the build. BTW my plastic Cannondale is for sale
on eBay if anyone is interested.

Congratulations on being able to enjoy one of life's great blessings,
and welcome to the AHH brotherhood. I think you will be delighted to
find that Mr. Hilsen is a versatile chap, eager to accompany you on a
variety of adventures awheel.

I often get congratulations on my custom Rivs and asked, "How *old* is
that bike?!" The inquirers are often nonplussed when I tell them,
"2003" or "1999" as the case may be.

Rode the Kojack equipped Riv #3 yesterday on a purposely extended
grocery ride; came back up Meadowlark (up the side of the mesa to Rio
Rancho; 1 mile that starts gradually and then gets much steeper),
standing for much of the way in the 72" gear, and bailed to walk the
final 1/8 steepest section with the 25 lb total (including bags) load
(2 bot cheap Chianti! -- for tonites' home made pasta sauce. The
Kojacks make a grocery load much less fraught with anxiety about
expansion cracks and rough pavement.

I typed "plastic cannondale" into the ebay search and couldn't find the bike!  :-)

Congrats on what IMHO is the best all-around bike on the planet...  Enjoy!

Must remember the "it's the future" response! Nice come back, and
congrats on the bike.

"It's the future". I like it.

Kind of like how in original Star Trek, when they ate a meal, the food was synthetic brightly colored "nutritious" cubes...

...but in Star Trek The Next Generation, which took place 80 years after the original series, whenever they ate a meal it was real stuff like pea soup and roast turkey.

Ric, Enjoy your AHH!  I know how exciting that delivery from UPS can be.  Patrick, Enjoy your pasta, my sauce is simmering right now, by coincidence (I'm feeding the office tomorrow, but we're having some tonight!)

I love the "it's the future" response. I gotta remember that.

I've had my Hilsen for 3 yrs now and it's just a great bike. I've
s24O'd, toured, randonneured, noodled and gravel grinded on it without
problems. It's a wonderful machine. It's amazing how changing the
tires changes the bike. With JB Greens it feels pretty darn zippy and
with 700x40 Marathons you can wind your way down dirt roads with
confidence.

Or, 2001, (filmed in '68) was 'futuristic', with weird spacy fashion, whereas 2010 (filmed in '84), everyone was more 'normal-looking' with their attire.
