getting ready to set up the bombadil with albatross bars.  wondering if anyone can chime in on what brake levers and shifters they like and what configurations they like the best.  Would love to see pics too!

This is a picture of my bike on the right and my daughter's bike on the left.  She's left handed and I'm right handed so we have bells on opposite sides.  She has twist shifters because that's what she's used to.  I have bar end Silver shifters with cork grips w/twine that have shellac.  I have a Niterider light mount, cyclometer, bell, my Po Campo purse and I've added the mirror from Riv since this was taken.  I also have a little Knog blinkie that I use to be seen and because I like to have redundant systems in case a battery burns out or I need to loan one out.  I ride everyday everywhere and can get everything on my bike.

I spent the summer enjoying the fancy Tektro levers that Riv sells. I was on the fence about the bolt being on the top of the handlebar.  Grips made it less noticeable, but I'm not sure I ever got fully used to having a bump there. That said, I love how solid and precise the levers feels.

Shifters...
I use silver DT shifters on the Homer... love them.
I use the cheapie friction thumbies from Riv on my Surly. The cheapies are not the prettiest component but they function as well as anything.

Have fun putting the new bar set up together.

Nice set up! I like the purse attachment. It makes me want to get one. Oh wait, I  do have one. Riv just calls it a grabsack: http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/bavgs.htm

How do y'all attach the Grabsack to your bar or rack or rails? Photos appreciated.

That is so great! I love those bikes.
PS, I've used reverso levers on albatross bars with good success. I'm about to set that up again.

I really bar end shifters. After trying thumb shifters, twist grips
shifters, various MTB clickety shifters, and even an old SA 3-speed
trigger shifter, I always come back to bar ends. Not having the
shifters in front of the grip area really opens up the bar for
multiple hand positions.

I currently have FL750 levers.
http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/bl11.htm The pros are all the good
stuff in Riv's ad copy. The actual lever part is very comfy. It's
super easy to get cables in and out. You don't really need to keep
that plastic clip. Road cables won't accidentally slip out unless you
manage to cut or break the cable, and then you have other problems
anyway. It will take MTB cables if that's all you have. However,
MTB cables WILL slip out, especially if you're like me and tend to
subconsciously fiddle with stuff while you're riding.

On the other hand, that knob on the top of the bar clamp, where the
fixing bolt goes through, is in the way. It fells weird to slide my
hand past it, and it's uncomfortable to rest my hand on it for more
than a few seconds. The next time I rewrap the bars, I may get some
new levers because of that.

HTH.
