Friend has ridden Fusion once to work and it looks as if a new bar is
in order to allow an even more upright position while we put the
saddle back an inch or so. The attached photo shows much how the bike
is presently set up.

I'm for the Dove or Albatross, but VO has swept back bars considerably
cheaper @ $35 with rises of 6 or 7 cm and sweeps-back of 18 and 19 cm.
I don't see these measurements for the Dove and Alb on the Riv site;
can anyone tell me how they compare to the VO bars?

http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/handlebars/vo-left-bank-handlebar-config.html

http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/handlebars/vo-montmartre-handlebar.html

Am I right in thinking that the Dove is very much like the Alba, just
made of aluminum and not as wide?

Also: She'll eventually need a better and wider saddle. Brooks out of
question right now, so I am seeking plastic alternatives: can anyone
point me to a nice, firmish, sprung saddle shaped more or less like a
B 67 or B 72?? I mention these only I've actually used them.

Lastly, the pedals are very slippery -- cheap cast aluminum with thin
ribber inserts, worst of both worlds. She'll be riding in athletic
shoes. Any suggestions for inexpensive replacements that aren't as
slippery? Prefer not to spend $60; how well do the Riv Sneaker Pedals
grip your shoes? MKS Touring Pedals would work but I wonder if they
are not more dangerous to tyro shins than the Sneaker-type design?

Lastly, if anyone has any of the above parts in good used condition
and wishes to sell or trade, please let me know offlist.

Thanks.

You are correct. Dove is less wide, aluminum version of Albatross. I put this bar on a friend's bike, who is a small person. She loves it.

I put the VO Left Bank bar on my sister's bike, as I was trying to save money and did not want to spend Bosco $. I was looking for similar rise to the Bosco and it is very similar in shape and rise. I don't have the measurements handy, but I know it is not as wide. Still, it worked out well for my sister. She is also a small person. She loves it.

Patrick:

It's not a race bike -- why couldn't she sub in MKS rubber block pedals? http://harriscyclery.net/product/mks-rubber-pedals-with-reflectors-9-16-663.htm I don't find them slippery at all, and they're shin-friendly for sure. Harris has some cheaper ones ($12), but I've been really satisfied with the MKS version -- they're quite nice and IMHO would look good on that (very attractive, by the way) bike.

If there is such a thing as a perfect bicycle product, the sneaker pedal is it. The only drawback I can find is it's too cheap, so people think it's less wonderful. A smart marketer would double the price and limit supply.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Sneaker pedal versus rubber block?

Can anyone give me the rise and sweep-back of the Dove?

Additional question: mirror? She bought and I installed this mirror:

http://www.bicyclebuys.com/accessories/Mirrors/0139961R

But (a) the lense popped out three times in 10 miles, and:

It very easily got out of adjustment.

I am inclined to forego mirrors entirely, but perhaps there is a
mirror that (1) attaches to the bike -- not to helmet or glasses; (2)
doesn't vibrate excessively; (3) is reasonably sturdy; and (4) keeps
its adjustment?

Tx agn.

I measured my wife's Dove bar. They rise about 4cm, they reach about 21cm, and tip to tip width is about 51cm. i like the sneaker pedal a lot, but it is a little slippery in the wet. I also like cheap bmx pedals with spikes for traction like this: http://www.rei.com/product/752200/wellgo-atb-bmx-pedal.  The mirror RBW sells is a very nice, sturdy one and won't fall apart easily: http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/m5.htm

I love the German mirror sold by Riv, here on my Quickbeam:

In my experience, the Sneaker pedal is lighter but less grippy than the rubber block pedals. I do like the Sneaker, though.

Jim and Tom: The German mirror is the one, then. Tom: I see you're
leaning the bike against the wall with it -- must be much better than
the Cateye.

I'm inclined to go with rubber pedals, too as they will grip (sort of)
leather or hard rubber soles as well as athletic soles.

or perhaps Sneakers + half clips.

The mirror is surprisingly tough -- if you whack it it goes out of alignment, but it's easily adjusted back, and stays in adjustment until you whack it again. I've dropped my bike on it more than once, and it's never broken.

Thanks -- definitely the one to get. Twice the $ of the Cateye but at
least 100,000 times better, apparently.

Glad I can order from Riv, anyway: Doves + mirror + reflective
triangle; we''l see if we go with Sneakers -- oh, can I break one of
the reflectors and install clips?

My vague recollection is that clips aren't easily installed on Sneakers.

I also am a big fan of the Mirror Aleman. If you snug up the screws once its adjusted, it takes a major whack to knock it out of place. Word of caution..... Objects in mirror are MUCH closer than they appear; very wide-angle.

I can send you a large rectangle of skateboard grip tape for the pedals you have already, if you'd like to try it. Best thing ever for feet and things-feet-should-stick-to.
