Oh, boy.

I’ve already taken Step 1, acknowledging that I have a problem.  Someday I’ll move on to additional steps in the program.

Meanwhile…I’ve owned 9 Rivs, still have 7 (2 given away to lucky offspring).  Here they are, in order of acquisition:

56cm twin top tube Bombadil (currently being rebuilt with Rohloff hub)

60cm Quickbeam (my favorite)

61cm Atlantis (heavy tourer)

60cm Quickbeam (built for #2 son)

61cm Homer (what passes for a fast bike in my stable; deficient engine)

??cm Mystery Bike (renamed Albert Campion, no one will figure THAT out)

60cm SimpleOne (built, then given to #3 son)

61cm Bleriot f/f (imagined as a wooden-wheeled single speed, wheels built then commandeered for…)

~59cm Wilbury f/f (in progress)

2 - still have 1997 Sherwood Green Waterford-built A/R and 2001 Harvest Gold Curt Goodrich (whither Curt?) Road Standard (Long-Lowish).Inspired by my love of the 1993 X0-1 I bought in 1993 and still own

Two (and I still own them).

The first is silver Quickbeam purchased near the end of 2009 (I think I got the last 66 cm frame - or close to it).

The second is a bit more recent, a Hunqapillar delivered earlier this month!!!

Both are great though I'll admit I'm sort of neglecting the QB at the moment.

I also own a Bridgestone RB-1, but it's in Hilo and I only ride it when I visit (as I will be doing in November). Does that count as 1/2 a Riv? 1/4?

I've got a couple of things floating around as well including an old ATB frame I rebuilt with Riv'y parts and stuck a Resurrectio decal on (1/10th Riv?) and a Bike Friday NWT which is non-Rivlike but has actually visited RBW in Walnut Creek not once, but twice! (1/100th?)

So...I guess I'd have to say 2.61 or 2.36 depending. :-)

Aloha,

Bob

I've "owned" maybe 30-40 or so, just long enough to sell them at my shop. MY personal tally is 2 Rivs: 58 Atlantis and 57 Canti-Rom, though both have since moved on to new homes. All my bikes since then have had significant Riv influence/similarity.

Just two, yet, still have them.

My Ram:

and my Bombadil:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/leslie_bright/7150235995/in/photostream/

I'm beginning to foresee another one, as a potential future project... 650b, lighter than my Bombadil:  perhaps a Saluki, a Bleriot, or, an Atlantis converted to Hetres... I'd seen a couple of potentials, but were far nicer than what I needed to get into at the moment (this would be a side "on-the-cheap" project)...

My 58 cm Atlantis will have its 10th birthday next spring, and will likely remain an only child.  Sometimes while reading this forum I start pondering about a faster, lighter, sportier, etc., bike.  A couple of hours on the Atlantis is the cure.

I had 3 of them

1. 2004 59cm Romulus, later repainted a darker blue. I thought it was too big for me, but later realized that it was the perfect size
2. 2004 57cm Romulus. I acquired it after I thought the 59cm was too big. While it worked, the 59cm worked better. I sold it to fund my Ebisu.
3. 2007? 59cm Bleriot. I got it in late 2010 to replace my Rawland Sogn. I liked the bike, but it wasn't very good as a front loader, and I had at this point acquired a preference for front geometry that suits front load. I sold it to a friend of a friend.

I currently don't have a Riv, but have a 80's Sequoia that many said inspired the design of perhaps the Rambouillet/Romulus. The Sequoia has slightly lighter tubings, though. I converted it to 650b and replaced the fork for one with lower trail.

If I were to buy a Riv again, it would probably be a proper tourer, like the Atlantis, though i really hope it will come in 650b, as that's the only wheel size I use now.

I've owned 3, one of which I still own.

I purchased a 62cm Rambouillet complete from Coventry Cycles (Portland, OR) in May of 2007. In the fall of 2008 I purchased an A. Homer Hilsen. In March of 2010 I purchased a Quickbeam. I sold the Rambouillet in 2011 and the Quickbeam earlier this year. The Rambouillet was a bit small and the Quickbeam a bit big.

My other bikes are a randonneuring bike built by Joshua Bryant. I also own three Surlys--LHT, CC and Big Dummy. I could see parting with the CC to make room for a Hillborne. And next year I might sell the LHT to make room for a Disc Trucker. We'll see.

Five bikes total in the stable now. Seems like a lot. I guess it is. Fortunately I have the space to store them, the time to ride them and no other hobbies or activities to compete with. Well, other than reading. Fortunately I like going to the library as much as buying books.

3. A 53 Romulus I sold when I (mistakenly) thought I was converting to recumbents forever. A 54 Hilsen which was a little too tall for my aging/shrinking bones. I now have a 52 Saluki which I'm building with rear derailer/7-speed and and FSA Patterson 2-speed front transmission.

2011 Sam orange 56cm - sold
2009 (?) Bomba clearcoat 52cm - looking to sell

2012 Betty Foy 50cm

I own two, and have owned four.

'99 Joe 26" wheeled fixed gofast custom
03 Curt 26" wheeled fixed runabout. This is actually almost identical to the '99 except that it has braze ons for fenders and racks. It was built as a derailleur bike -- with the world's only removable left dt shifter brazeon, because I wanted to run it as a 1X10, but I had local builder Dave Porter swap out the dropouts for Campy 1010s and now it is a fixie with no irritatingly superfluous braze ons. (Hah!)
2010? Sam HIllborne that was Riv's floor model for a while: single tt, cantis. Not a bad bike at all, but not one that fits into my personal preferred categories of use, so I sold it.
'95 (ordered late '94) Waterford built, custom 26" wheeled Riv Road. This was an interesting one and I mildly wish I'd kept it: I called Grant and asked him to build me a road bike for 26" wheels that handled better than the XO-1. He said, "it will handle better" and sho' 'nuff it did. It was sized and based roughly on the then current All Rounder model, but with tweaked geometry and road tubing (tout 753) and road lugs and the nicest biplane crown. I later hacked it up (very nicely) to make it into a dedicated fixed gear commuter and then sold it. It would still make a very nice beater for those occasions when I want to lock a bike up outside in a more chancy neighborhood than is my usual wont.

What I would like to add:

Ram or Roadeo; probably Ram.
Atlantis for touring (Fargo to off road only) or Hunq for off road.

Forgot to add, as expected: The '94 was a nice bike but nothing at all compared to the later two customs which are far better in every way including handling.

Aside: Every time I think of converting the '99 gofast to a multispeed with bags, fenders, lights and so on -- was just pondering the possibility again the other day -- I ride it up a few hills as I did this afternoon and -- well, it goes up hills better than any bike I've owned; better than the other Riv. I may just get a S3X wheelset as a spare.

I'll come out of the woodwork to join this thread:
Three total.
56 Atlantis too small, but with Albatross bars it was rideable.  Sold
56 Sam Hillborne.  One of the first with the longer top tube.  That made it fit right in reach, but the frame was probably otherwise too small.  Now also sold.
60 SimpleOne.  Still around.  For now.

2.

Well...maybe if it could fit wider tires, that'd be perfect.

I own two....a 56cm Hillborne (the all Green one) and a 60cm SimpleOne but........I would sell them off for a 58cm Atlantis frame. I only need one good bicycle and at my weight I need a beefier frame either a 'Hunk' or an Atlantis which I prefer Aesthetically. This would replace my Surly Trucker frame which seems to be perfect for me as far as tire size options and frame strength etc..... only problem its not a Riv and not lugged.

Two:

2009 A.Homer Hilsen - 59cm bought from riv as a "frame special" in copper.  Love it and about dialed in now with 42cm Noodles
2012 Hunqapillar - 54cm bought from riv.

I built both from frame/fork, and they have gone through 3-10 revisions so far.  I'm learning :)  Both are very different in weight and capacity, but both feel like they are on rails, and are the best bikes I've ever ridden..  Just ordered a Medium SaddleSack for my b-day so I can put my tools in the side pockets and use the main compartment for commuting (iPad, tshirt, socks, occasional extras.  Soon to put the Small SaddleSack up for sale?

52 cm blue Ram (has a quicker set and a comfort set of tires/wheels. 26" in this size frame)
50 cm yellow green Saluki (I use this as my tourer)
54 cm '95 Road. (Pre production. level TT, no HT extension, Std Wfd front geometry (?), slack Riv rear layout. Converted to 650B. Gets most of the miles. Quick handling bike)

Like Franklyn, I've abandoned 700c as a wheel size in favor of 650B, having another non riv bike also converted (and running mustache bars)

Currently have a Hillborne, 48cm orange with canti brakes. The bike rocks.

I had an atlantis but sold it because I needed money. Bummer. An Atlantis could do fine as my only bike if I didn't find myself riding with a bike club every so often.

I have been looking at a future riv and have looked hard at either a AHH or even a Roadeo, but I would also like a trail bike which means Hunqapillar or Bombadil.  I might have to go for that 48 cm. clear coated proto-bomba on the site if it is still there. One 58 Hunqapillar, bought and built at the source almost a year ago. It brings much joy.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/olipop/6833412309/

One 64 Atlantis 10-12 years old, used off the eBay. Home-rebuilt with fresh Riv parts and no special skills. It brings much joy.

Both are ridden alternatively almost daily to and from work, in and around town. Love them and nothing compares.
The next one will be a mixte, Foy or Gomez. I'm trying to resist but it feels futile.

I've got a Legolas, Quickbeam, and Hilborne. But I'm going to sell the Hilborne to pay for the proto-Bombadil I'm picking up today. The Sam is an orange, 60cm, single top tube with sidepull brakes if anyone is interested.

60cm 2007 Nobilette-made Custom Protovelo 650B

58cm 1999 Joe/Joe Road Custom 700c

58cm 2007 Quickbeam 700c (orange) - unbuilt, but seen here:

Over the years, I sold a QB and passed on a Romulus to my brother.

Just one: 64cm NOS Orange (2006-ish?) Quickbeam, built up this summer, with anything but stock parts:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/85709120@N07/8135410177/

But, as Jim T. says, the rest of my fleet exhibits marked influence by the Rivendell philosophy, and while I wear lycra, fancy shoes, and clipless pedals when I ride my road bike, I'd like to think that most of my miles qualify as "just riding."

3 for me:

64 Green Ram, bought in '06, fat tired and un-fendered. Closest thing to a fast bike I ride
60 Sam (green, single tube). This is probably my most ridden as of late.
62 Quickbeam I bought used. Has custom paint (was orange). I have it set up as a fixed gear. My favorite fixed gear bicycle by far.
Have thought the two geared bikes could be replaced with one.  An Atlantis or a Hilsen perhaps. A tough choice if I were to have to make it.  I'd probably go with the Atlantis as the newer Hilsen in my size sports dual TTs, an aesthetic I haven't gotten used to yet.
To sum in up, I probably only have 1 too many.

I'll start: 1

Just one Riv so far.  58cm Rambouillet, one of the early ones in orange.  I love, love, love the bike but it's almost too pretty to ride.  I am trying to remedy that.

I'm at an inventory-controlled one right now: my 2001 orange Rambouillet.

I'm probably exceeding the envelope of it's conception and due to add something of much wider tire livery and grace under load (and hub generated light, and braze-ons everywhere etc.). I just have to rationalize well enough with the warehouse manager.

From a heritage perspective I have my RBW chops from my Bridgestone models; '91 MB-0, '93 RB-1, '93 XO-2. All live elsewhere with new owners but the XO is in a foster situation; my ownership, visiting and maintenance rights intact. Happier seeing fit use of it in sporadic commuting, shopping & leisure modes by friend than parked in my stable.

Sam/Homer? My commuting beast may have to go to justify. Not sure if I can do so abruptly and chump-rack a new rig every day.

I have two.
A 61 Atlantis built by Mark Nobilette in 2009.
And a 61 Roadeo frame was delivered to my house about two weeks ago.
I'm hoping to build it up over the next several weeks.

Two.

I have a 54cm Orange Quickbeam and a 55cm AHH.

I am toying with the idea of replacing the AHH with something else
but not sure exactly what yet (maybe a Black Mountain Cycles Monster
Cross).

Unless, I get injured in a way that makes single speed riding no
longer viable, I don't think I will ever sell the Quickbeam.

I have a near new condition MB-2 Comp.  Just put some super fat rubber on, that barely fits. The original Ritchey tires still hold up okay but they are a little on the skinny side for roots and rocks.
