For a few reasons, I had the opportunity to treat myself to a set of White VBC cranks and BB.  Now I need to decide which bike to put them on.  It's a 44/30.  Polished silver arms and black rings.

Candidate #1:  My Black Mountain road bike.  It's currently got a 46/29 and I want to gear this bike down to a 44, one way or another.  This bike has a lot of black on it already, so I think it would get me the gearing I want and would fit right in with the look of the bike.

Candidate #2:  My A. Homer Hilsen.  It's also got a goodly amount of silver and black going.  It already has a 44/30 on it, which is perfect.  The White on this bike would get a little more Silver on it, and I'd move this 44/30 ring setup over to the Black Mountain.

Which bike should get the new crankset and BB?

My vote goes to option 2. (I'm already tired of hearing about candidates.)

seems like a good reason to buy a new frame

Now that's funny. funnier than "Secret Option 3: install it on my Quickbeam" at any rate. :^)
It looks like the AHH already has a Ritchey crank of its own. I'm kind of interested to see if one of those come up for sale, but they look too long.

I don't think it matters, since these rings are not like matted mt bike rings, but are highly polished. Quite sleek looking.  They will however look best with the black fenders.  BTW, these rings shift beautifully.

Thanks everybody.  Comments above are correct, that these two bikes have identical Ritchey 172.5mm 94/58 bcd arms.  Both sets are set up compact double, one with  a 44/30 and the other with a 46/29.  Both have the top secret Q-reducing technique applied, a 102mm ISO taper BB, which lets the arms go on a little bit farther than the "correct" JIS taper.

I am going to go ahead and put the White VBC crankset on the Black Mountain road bike.

The Ritchey that comes off will then go on my Bombadil, back as a triple, with the stock 22/32/42.  Unless of course I try to do something different

pb, bless you for suggesting a new frame.  That makes the decisions that much more fun!
