Title speaks the truth.
Gum rubber is fresh (vs. dried, cracking or rotting) so... any ideas?

Thanks Much!

Remove?  I was trying to figure out how to add.  I need more beausage to make people think I ride more than I do.

Seriously though, IPA ought to work fine.

...and by IPA I mean isopropyl alcohol, not India Pale Ale

Glad I caught your last message, just cracked open a Dogfish Head IPA
and almost poured it on the hoods. Down the hatch instead.

Won't isopropyl alcohol dry the hoods out?

maybe it would dry out real gum rubber if you soaked in it.  Just rub it on and rub it off, and you should be fine.  If it's fake gum rubber, like anything modern, then it won't matter even if you soak in it.

-Scott,

I've done okay cleaning old intact grimy shimano white brake hoods by removing them from the brakes, soaking in hot water with dishwasher detergent, followed by scrubbing with a brush.  Once the brake hoods are dried/ cracked, I've salvaged them by wrapping them with electrical tape, and eventually ordered replacements.
Here in New England, I prefer Sam Adams to IPA.

Best,
Larry

Beer clarification comment....IPA is a type of ale. Sam Adams makes an
IPA too.
