Sorry to hear the SimpleOne isn't selling so well. I like it, but
really can't justify another bike (I have 3 singles, 2 tandems).

Regarding rain pants, I really prefer them in black, anyway. I make a
point of buying bike jackets in bright colors, and I really think that
black pants with good reflectors are perfectly fine. And they stay
looking clean much better. Black pants and bright rain jacket seems
like the perfect combo to me...

Yeah, I was surprised that they weren't out of SimpleOnes yet and
working on the next batch. They look to be such a great bike.

I like the SO, not least because it's the only "budget" ($1k range as opposed to $2k range) Riv remaining with 1TT in the upper sizes. But the canti brakes are not what I want on a bike like this. Cable hangers aren't "simple" and v-brakes just look wrong.
Also, as a business strategy, why doesn't Riv just make more of the things they are constantly sold out of, like XS Saddlesacks?

It seems like the larger sizes of QBs go fast on the used market, so maybe missing out on those is hurting sales (though of course I'm biased, since I would ride a 64cm, and I expect Riv has a better handle of what sells that I do)

Agreed; people seem to want to buy a vintage road frame and convert to SS or FG.  $250 for frame + $250 for powder coat, half the price of a SO.  IMHO, Steve

No kidding; the Simple Ones are my favorite current Rivendell besides
the Roadeo. The fixed gear craze seems kind of over, but I don't think
that was the prime mover on Quickbeam sales, anyway, especially with
canti posts. I do think the cantis are appropriate, though, since the
SO and QB aren't strictly road bikes.

Weren't there very few SO's initially made? If so, it's doubly
disappointing that they are not moving. Seriously thought about one
when they were announced. Went a different route instead, but the
bike is still tempting.

As for the rain pants, they are nice. But the orange is less than
optimal. Not only does it show lots of mud/slush from winter riding,
but the seat gets a lot of dye transfer from black saddles. Not a
pretty sight. It ain't beausage that's for sure.

I read it, but can't quite believe it: Do people really return worn-out socks to RBW for refunds? I mean, sock fibers hold dirt, dirt is abrasive, and it stands to reason that socks will eventually "thin out" after some period. That's just a fact, and it doesn't seem right to demand a refund after that happens. Maybe some people have unrealistic expectations on how long natural-fiber clothing should last.

If not for the quickbeam i found locally over the summer i would be
thinking about a SimpleOne now, the fact that this may be the last run
ever (or for a long time), just makes me want to say this.

If you don't have a Riv single-speed/fixie, go for it. My QB is
definately the most ridden, most joy bike i've used in my stable the
last six months, it's easily my go fast bike at the moment. if i had
the room and the funds i'd consider a second simpleone just so i could
keep moustache bars on one and albatross bars on the other. I've
never liked moustache bars but on my QB they are just perfect.

i never really understood the fixed gear/singlespeed concept (what's
the big deal, just don't shift....) but having owned one--and maybe
it's the fact that it's a RBW one, i'm upset i didn't get one
earlier. if you've been putting it off, look at a simpleone now,
especially given how slow the sales, this has the look of one of the
items that RBW will not bring back for awhile.

+1. I have multiple Rivs, and my QB is by far the most frequently ridden. A quick and responsive dreamboat.

Well, I tell ya, if it was in my size I would have bought one.  Sadly, I am a short dude who usually needs the smaller size bikes. Not a huge problem as an Atlantis is in my future but I think the limited sizing may have something to do with it. Also, the QB really seemed to sell well so maybe enough owners already have a single speed type bike and don't really need the SimpleOne.

I really like their email updates, especially in the middle of winter. Gave me the push to buy some MUSA knickers just now.

I bought a Simple One frame, and built it mostly from the parts bin.
I'm OK with canti brakes on it. I would have been equally OK with
sidepulls.

The bike is my primary commuting (1-2x/week) and shopping bike. I
have a small front basket and a rear rack. I have battery lights
front and back, grip king pedals, the crank is a triple from a 1986
Stumpjumper. It's geared on the low side. I can spin the pedals up
close to 20mph, but really no faster. Since I'm not racing anybody,
that's fine. When I'm going downhill, I coast. The gearing is low
enough that I can make it up the big hill on my way home from work.
I would gear a bike a bit higher for purely flat riding. I think my
combination is 36/17, but maybe it's a 38.

I like it a lot.

Canti's killed the SO for me. I was set to get one when it was the
Tektro long reach.
