I was invited to join three other riders and thought I'd make a report for a couple of two, three reasons. It is a great way to extend getting around in the bay area by bike and public transportation and it includes the "Planet of the Apes" route and Tunitas Creek Road. We met at the Daly City BART station and headed towards the ocean. There we took a bunch of side streets, beach, dirt and semi-dirt trails to get to Half Moon Bay. The end of the day was up Tunitas Creek Road through the redwoods and a fun descent to Redwood City where we caught Caltrain to BART and home. The ride leader posted the route here:

Hi Tony,

Sorry to miss the "Junista" ride. Maybe next time!
23 years ago I lived in Pacifica and worked at the Bicyclery in Half Moon Bay. I would take the "Planet of the Apes" route (never heard it called that until much later) on my MB-1 so as to avoid riding Highway 1 and Devil's Slide on the coast. How was it and what bike/tires did you use? Much walking?!

Hi David,

Yeah, Old San Pedro Mountain Road is more historic and a better name.

It was great! I was on my Hillborne with the usual commute fenders, albatross bars and Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 700c x  35mm tires. I was happy, considering the fog and dark return home, that I kept the front light and generator hub on also. Phil rode skinny road tires so as to lead the ride later and be sure all bikes can apply.

I hope to ride with you sometime soon,

Tony

When is "later" going to be? I still haven't done that route and want to.

I'll let you know Anne. It'll be with the Grizzly Peak group.
