I have no color advice, but I was reminded of a phone conversation I overheard years ago when I worked at another shop. A jaded mechanic was on the phone for a long time with an apparently neurotic customer, who was asking for a verbal description of a color of something or another... All I really remember was the mechanic doing a perfect deadpan as he said: "It's sorta halfway between asinine and muted puce."

I love my silver Bombadil, and have had others painted silver as well. Very forgiving as to the nuances that show up in other colors. You can add color on a whim with new bar tape and bags, and it changes the whole vibe. Here's the latest version with eggplant tape:

Get it in metallic. My vote is for favorite color of OP in metallic.
Cheers!

Last to the party, but so sorry to hear about (and SEE, on Flickr – yikes!) your Bleriot. So glad you’re OK. I had my Bombadil painted by Bilenky – it came out absolutely beautiful.
Re color, I honestly think it’s hard to go wrong with Riv frames, especially with the cream headtube, but I do love my Atlantis in Pewter; a pic is reposted here (apologies for those who’ve peeked before): http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/7107210911/in/set-72157624427413755 The color number is in the comments.
Hope you’re feeling better!

I like the bare metal look alot. Is that clear paint or clear powder over the bare metal? Is there any color diference at the lugs? Can you see the material used to connect the tubes to the lugs? I've seen bare metal fillet brazed bikes and the color difference between the steel tubes and the "gold" brazed areas looks pretty cool.I also wonder if you've had any issues with rust? I'm in the Seems like I read something from Grant where he said he wasn't going to send out bare metal frames because the finish wasn't holding up.
I'm partial to clear coat over bare metal:

But purple and orange sound good too.

I had a clearcoat (Riv called it Raw Clear Powdercoat) over bare metal Bombadil http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/4249456177/in/set-72157624552118742/ , which has now been repainted http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/4815169169/in/set-72157624552118742/ , as it was showing some rust under the clear. But I would note two things: (i) my bike was being stored within 30 feet of a salt water back bay, and you can’t get a much worse environment for a steel frame than that, regardless of whether it’s painted, color powdered or clearcoated; and (ii) the rust didn’t look bad, in fact it was pretty cool – I just got a little panicky, probably because it was my first foray into the higher priced steel frames, and I didn’t want to take a risk. In retrospect, I wish I’d left it – it looked great.

Peter:
I had two frames painted by Bruce, both for less than $200, and both came out great. One was a 1985 MB-2 (sort of Riv content?), here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/6708095501/in/set-72157628383880621 The other was an early ‘80s (I think) Nishiki mixte frameset that he repainted (along with an old Simplex chainguard and a set of VO Zeppelin fenders) for a Christmas gift for my daughter-in-law, in Candy Apple Red, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/7161292749/in/set-72157627582881347/ and here, with the chainguard: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/7346233742/in/set-72157627582881347/ . Total cost for two framesets, a set of fenders and the chainguard (with cream inset on the guard and a cream headtube on the mixte) was around $450. And everything looked great – almost (but not!) too good to be true.

Rene, you won’t regret this color – it’s even better in person, and especially in the sun.

I was able to track down the original photo of the Atlantis in pewter that has me drooling over that color choice. http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/7107210911/
You can see how lovely it is, and also how loverly the silver looks on the Bombadil... which one to choose? Still have a week or two to keep changing my mind before I take the Hunqapillar apart and take it to D&D...

I do love silver, my preferred choice in cars back when I drove. I do love the purple playing off the silver. Anyone know the email address for Bruce at the Color Factory? He said he would be mailing me out a packet of info but he also mentioned something about an email with the color list he would send out, unfortunatly I got too wrapped up talking to remember it.

On our Custom Bilenky tandem we told them painters choice.. I'm ok with it.. Dawn is kinda freaking out.
I need to send my Bombadil in for a repaint.. I've scratched it up pretty good which is ok.. but the bike rack that ravaged my seat tube decal is annoying the hell out of me. I'm thinking of going back to D&D for standard color repaint and decaling.. or is that just plain boring?
I do know I want something a little tougher and thought about powder coat but don't know....
Dawn has custom colors on her Atlantis and Roadeo, all of mine are stock colors... hmmm stock colors are so easy and I know what they are going to look like.. :) Sheesh now you have me in a mindless circle jerk of thoughts and to think I thought I had my mind made up.

FYI, The Silver color I've used a couple times is Imron 44401 Pewter Grey Metallic. Joe Bell used it on my Proteus SS here:
