Hey there! I've been trying to figure out what everyone thinks would
be the proper BB length for the cartridge bottom bracket Riv sells to
outfit on my new Atlantis. I will be using the XD2 crankset too.

Someone says 107...older posts say 110 or 113....please, someone...set
me straight!

Thanks!

i have a 113mm on my Atlantis using a Sugino xd triple crank. i could get by with a 110 especially if i ran a 24t granny ring

I went round and round on this exact topic a couple of years back. Fretted, suffered,  found old posts etc. 107 or 110?

Same bike / cranks.

Finally the man, Grant - himself, spoke to me through a post and said 107.

58 Atlantis + Tange 107 BB + 172.5 Sugino XD2 works perfectly for me.

Eric:

Do what Mitch did & give Rivendell a call. My Atlantis is also a 58 w/
Riv std Sugino triple (24 tooth granny). I have a Shimano 110 mm BB
and there is perhaps 1 mm clearance at the chainstay. When I next
need a BB I'll go up to 113. FWIW, Riv built the bike up with a 116
mm Tange. So I don't think it's super critical as long as you get
everything to clear. My guess is there are some minor variations
between the various crankset / BB combinations, but Riv will have the
definitive answer for your case.

i'm always surprised by the the 107mm recommendation, i guess it works for triples with small rings, but on my bikes with normal doubles, it's *really* close to the chainstays.

I use a 107 with my Sugino cranks and yes the inner ring can get close
but you want that......it allows better alignment with the small chain
ring and large rear cog. You are safe regardless as long as your front
deraileur works and you get no rubbing on the chain stay. On my old
Raleigh I had about 2mm clearance and that was enough.
