Has anyone found a good way to mount the German wide-angle mirror, that RBW sells, to a fork in such a way that it's in a horizontal orientation, instead of vertical? I've been experimenting with it this weekend, and think I would get a better view of the traffic back there if it were horizontal. I don't want to mount it to my M-bars, or to the front basket... up high on the fork, just below the Cantilever boss, is a good spot. But I can only get it over to about 40 degrees above horizontal before the ball stem binds on the cup lip.

Am trying to figure out what you mean by mounting it on the fork... won't your leg block its view?

Oh no... it can be set to give a nice view to the side, not straight back, even when mounted on the fork. I just think it would be a better view if the mirror were set in a generally horizontal (when viewed from above) orientation, as that would be even wider, and let me see cars both at my side, and behind me. I might have to bend the mirror arm, or use a Two Fish Lock-block to mount a separate shaft orthogonal to the fork. That would certainly be function over form.

Interesting idea.  As interested as I was in that mirror, I passed because it seemed that it would interfere with changing hand positions from brakes to the swept back portion of moustache bars.  Post pics if/when you get it working!

I have the Bike Eye from Harris on my LHT (http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/mirrors.html) and it works pretty well. I wanted to avoid damage from parking in crowded public racks, and it has been successful in that regard. It is not ideal for reading license plates or checking out someone behind you, as you need to mive your leg oit of the way, but as far as determining "is a car there?" it works great. I do think that being frame mounted it suffers less from handlebar jitters than a bar or fork mounted mirror would.
