I was out on the back roads yesterday when a guy pulled up from behind on a very pretty BMC racing frame with a full campy group.  We rode together for awhile chatting, when he said, "That's a very nice looking bike."  I said, "Yea, its got a great transmission, but the engines blown."

I'll have to remember that one.

I often get compliments on my Hilsen and randonneuring bike from folks on plastic bikes. I think there's a great appreciation for these kinds of bikes because of the interest and attention given to hand-built bikes over the past couple of years.

That's superb! I'll try to footnote it when I use that!

It's interesting that you get comments that often.  My old Schwinn would draw complements every single time I rode it, so much that people who rode with me would laugh.  My AHH, that replaced the Schwinn when I crashed it and was built up in a very similar fashion, but with nicer components, rarely draws a comment.  Very strange.

I think my AHH gets hit on at least 80% of the time.  With a Sackville saddlesack, it's even more "hit-onable".
