I wore my Rivendell shirt today, "No One But No One Makes A Monkey Out
Of Us," which is suitably opaque, but getting a little frayed. I was
looking at the new shirts on Rivbike.com, just now, and while the
orange and green are fantastic colors, they're out of stock in all
sizes but small.

I think a line of tee shirts with line drawings of Rivendell bicycle
models would be fantastic. The other thing I'd really like is a
Hunqapillar headbadge tee shirt! What if... what if Rivendell had
shirts for each model - small headbadge on the front, big bike drawing
on the back? Would you buy one? Two?

And, hunqapillarrelevant, did you know that on the Ice Age island of
Santarosae, the peaks of which are the Channel Islands off the
California coast, there were "pygmy mammoths?" An oxymoron like "Mini
Super," the pygmy mammoth still stood 6 feet at the shoulder.

I would, maybe if they could be made for historical models, too.

A romulus shirt would be most welcome.

Me too. Bombadil, Quickbeam, Atlantis, SimpleOne, Homer, Bleriot, even the HS (if it ever emerges from its cocoon). They'd be great.

BTW, my wife informed me the other day that "Cogito, Ergo I Ride a Steel Bike" is possible a trifle arrogant, as it suggests that riding anything else implies an empty head. Whether the logic is flawed or not, I now live in fear of being confronted by a really large carbon-riding guy who thinks I'm casting aspersions on his intellect. Life is so complicated.

I'd love to see artistic renditions of the likes of Samuel Hillborne, A. Homer Hilsen, and of course Betty Foy/Yves Gomez.  I like the bike on the back idea.

Funny, I always thought the point was to cast aspersions on folks' intellects :)

My buddies at work thought, too, that it is a trifle arrogant. With emphasis on "trifle", of course. Which is ironic in itself.

But they suggested that to mitigate the arrogance, it'd've been better to have the part after "cogito ergo" be in pig latin.

Though of course we couldn't even agree on how to say "I" in pig latin.

I think this is a great idea, though I imagine ordering a dozen or so designs might be a duanting prospect for Riv.
I think a design for each model with the headbadge on the front (maybe the left breast pocket location) and a drawing of the bike on the back would be fantastic.
Maybe there is something like Cafe Press where people could order whatever they want. I know Riv's share of the sale would be small, but it sure beats getting stuck with inventory.

I have to say I believe I am currently fully stocked on RBW t-shirts; I've got over a dozen, each more comfortable than any non-RBW t-shirt I've ever owned.

But one thing that would entice me to buy 2-4 more would be a t-shirt with a single breast pocket.

As long as they use a maker they've used before and offer it in XXL, I'm sure I'd be happy with the shirt. They really are super comfortable.

"I've got over a dozen, each more comfortable than any non-RBW t-shirt I've ever owned."

No doubt because they were sized by RBW.   Most shops, even with those fancy fit-kits, will put you in a t-shirt that is *way* too small.    No doubt the sizing of t-shirts over the past few years has been heavily influenced by the tiny clothing of the fashion/hipster crowd-  but what Rivendell offers is definitely not for fashionistas, rather for people who want practical, comfortable wear-it-all-day tshirts-   always cotton, always ringer T's.*

'Cogito ergo' kind of bugged me, but 'raising hbars and a ruckus...' more than made up for it.  My favorite shirt by a longshot.  Pygmy mammoth makes me want to barbecue some 'jumbo shrimp' for dinner, or maybe get a job in 'military intelligence'

"Cogito Ergo I-ay Ide-ray Eel-stay" is pretty funny. Especially with
the delay it would take to decode the message, then the meaning of the
message.

Setup costs for screenprinting one-color shirts are minimal, but
inventory would be daunting, you're right. There are art costs
associated, of course. You don't magically get a line drawing of a
bicycle by waving your hands... unless you're an artist and wave them
very carefully, for a certain amount of time! :^)

If (any imaginary) Rivendell bike model tee shirts came out one at a
time, there'd be less of an up-front cost. And maybe more excitement
and sales at each release. I'd be more likely to buy a "Roadeo" tee
shirt if it was the only one on offer at the time than if I had to
choose amongst several.

Now I want to make a nice, clean line drawing of my Quickbeam...

I think this idea is a great one. I have yet to pick up even one RBW t-shirt because every time I see one I like they are out of my size, or discontinued. Gotta be fast. I really liked the sweatshirts, but those are gone too.

Speaking of artwork, I did this watercolor for Jay after a visit to Rivendell as a thank you. He helped me out getting me into the right Hilsen, and set me up on a Hunq loaner for a ride @ Shell Ridge / Diablo.

I wonder if the guy who did the posters for hiawatha cyclery can be
commissioned at a reasonable rate or not.

Obviously his were not line drawings but, imo, he knows how to draw a bike.

How about a just the outline of the frame on the back with graphics and the head badge centered in the front. Single color too. That would keep the cost down.

Steve,

Thanks! Im Brad, but the bike was Jay's. I have done several commissions over the years of bicycle, and oddly wristwatch portraits. I was already doing some of my favorite pro cyclists like Endurain, Pantani, and Jaja...and was asked to do a guys bike. Very fun to do.

Indeed.  I shoved a book under my armpits and sent them my measurements.  The size they gave me was bigger than anything I'd worn before.  I was skeptical but I trusted the advice of everyone on this list that Riv's size would be spot on and sure enough it was.

Ohhhh... and those lugged sleeves.  Simply spectacular!
