So a few of my bags use corroplast stiffeners.  It occurred to me that I could make an entire handlebar bag out of corroplast.  It's partly just for a lark, and partly to prototype a bigger bag.  It turned out so nicely, I might start using it and see how it holds up.  I've got some experience making things out of tape, so it was a craft kind of in my wheelhouse.

Looks great, and nicely taped. That material is semi-translucent, yes? You could put a bright LED inside, and it would light up the whole, like a lantern. Not as good as a headlight, but it could serve a different aesthetic purpose.

That material may be available in semi-translucent shades, but this stuff is pretty darn opaque.  On the conspicuity front, you could absolutely plaster the thing with reflective stickers.  I have gaffer tape in day-glo, and I have glow in the dark tape that would be pretty entertaining to look at.  But I don't have good retroreflective tape on hand.  I've got a couple tape wholesalers I've purchased from.

I took the handlebar bag into the office and the postal scale.  The bag weighs 360 grams and has a 14.75 liter capacity.

Very cool.

Post the pattern you used? :)

Well, the one I made was specifically for one bike, and won't fit on at least two other bikes of mine.  So I don't expect this pattern to be useful for many bikes.  Ship me your bike and I'll make a pattern for it!

Before I commit to shipping my bike to you for a pattern fit, could you ship your bike and the handlebar bag to me so I can make sure it's what I want? Thanks!

Aloha, Bob

well played, sir

I did a two piece back side to account for the gangster lean of the Nitto tombstone.  So seven pieces:

1.  Lower back:  28cm x 11cm
2.  Upper back: 28cm x 14cm
3.  Left side 21.5cm x 24cm with a corner cut off
4.  Right side 21.5cm x 24cm with a corner cut off
5.  Front 28cm x 24cm
6.  Bottom 28cm x 18cm
7.  Top 30cm x 22.5cm

More detail on the side.  The top edge of the side is 21.5cm.  The front edge of the side is 24cm.  The bottom edge of the side is cut back to 18cm from 21.5cm.  The back edge of the side is cut back to 14cm from 24cm, so the triangle that you cut off is a right triangle with sides of 3.5cm and 10cm and a hypotenuse of ~11cm.
Aloha, Bob

I've moved my DIY handlebar bag over to the Hilsen and it worked splendidly on my 35 mile road ride into the office this morning.  The key recent enhancement was a magnetic closure.  I'm thinking I'll run this for my Memorial Day 200k.

Great bag! Will the Coroplast and duct tape handle heavy as well as
bulky items, like gallons of milk?

Sorry, no front rack to accomodate, but one would make a nice trunk if
I ever get a platform rack for the still-unsold Ken Rogers trike.

I bought a $1.99 ziploc pen holder thing that the kids use in their binders to hold their, um, pens.  I taped and velcro'd it to the roof of the bag as my new map case.  Worked great

Cool.
Have you tried the Bubba Box in heavy rain yet? Do the contents stay dry?

Rain, yes.  but just for the ~1.5 miles from office to BART and the ~1.5miles from BART to my front door.  Did excellent for that short exposure.

Extended rain, no.

Ha!  Confirmed.  I did an SFR 200k permanent on Monday, the Jittery Jaunt.  White's hill was on the menu to be sure.

I think the Bubba Box is ready for expanded use and accessorizing...
may I offer a few ideas:

- Insulated insert (the Bubba Brew Box) for cold beverages
- Padded pet insert (the Bubba Beast Box) for your favorite critter
- Skins (the "My Bubba Box" line of colored and patterned overlays)

Quit your job, Bill... take the biking world by storm.... Carpe Diem,
amigo...

Peace,
BBBBB (Bobby "Bubba-Box Believer" Birmingham)

LMAO.  Bobby, be careful encouraging Bubba.  He's bad enough without the encouragement.

For the somebody who asked.  The box weighs 15.9 ounces complete as you see it according to the office postal scale.  That's with map case and velcro and the Berthoud decaleur bits, but otherwise empty.
