How did she handle, Patrick?  I just received mine today.  Can't wait to load her up for the Monday commute!

Patrick,
Am not sure but you appear to be one brick shy of a load.

I guestimate the load at 25 lb total including bag and kit. Handling affected but acceptable -- more so than same weight in low-set pannier, but after all it's a fixed gear and My handling is always very conservative.

I'd be interested to hear your experience both with capacity and with effect on handling.

Overall the best saddlebag I've used.

Brian -- Sackvilles do fine in Portland. Mine will eventually soak through if it's coming down good and I'm out for a while. The typical NW mist/light rain is a non-issue. -- Andy

Patrick, your enthusiasm for the bag is making me regret selling mine.
Hopefully things will align in the future and I can pick-up some
Sackville panniers.

--My-- regret is to have given away the extremely hard to find 559 Hammered Honjos that didn't work with my custom rack. They would have fit fine under the

For reference (I use Ortlieb Packer Pluses and Packers) the Large carries 33 l stuffed but not violated, the M 23 l ditto, and the flap 'n' strap arrangements would probably allow at least 30% more for properly packaged items. A pair of Packer Pluses carries 50 l, and the smaller front Packers with extensions about 30 l the pair. Actually, I wonder about the last figure, because my experience with the smaller fronts is that as a pair it is hard to get more than I got into the Medium -- absolute volume is not the same thing as usable space. Overall, I'm confident that, for groceries at least if not peanuts or compressible clothing, the S-M easily holds as much as one fully extended and stuffed Ortlieb Packer Plus.

I will add that, having recently owned a Hoss, the Medium tho' smaller (26 vs 23) provides at least as much usable room, perhaps because it is easier to load without things falling out. It certainly has more usable carrying room than a Camper Longflap at 24 l.

Given that the Green Riv doesn't really like rear loads over 25 lb, the M ought to be just right. (Odd, since I've had lighter frames that could easily handle 15 lb more.)

looks great. I have the large saddlesack and always wonder whether the medium might not be big enough. Pics make it seem like the medium would carry enough 99% of the time.

I actually like the look of the green Carradices better, but there is no question which is the best bag in terms of quality and useful capacity.

I think I've found another, Klutz-compatible* way to make even stronger mounting brackets ... more as this develops.

* No need for anything except hand tools and no need for advanced metal working skills.

I have the large and I've appreciated it for the rainy season... It carries all my locks, rain gear, and leaves me space for groceries and a few bottles of wine to spare! I also think it looks damn handsome.
