Enjoying these riv readers I just got. The new scans in the cork. Looks like a fun treasure-trove of un-racing info. I am looking forward to reading and learning. I am especially looking forward to the mechanics stuff it looks like may be in there. I saw one article about how to install a headset.

Anyone know if any readers ever came with color pics, or were they all black and white?
I am guessing all B&W, with any color print saved for bike model brochures.

The last few have used color. Btw, the headset article is RR 27..I was just reading that the other night. Enjoy the typos! There were a lot in the early days.

It's interesting to see someone discover these now. Many of us remember the days on the iBob List when the Readers came out 4 or 5 times a year. We had endless "I got mine!" posts, with people trying not to spill too much about the articles until everyone had there's. I enjoyed those days.

I like them so far.
But the scans aren't that great. Grainy, and the print is not crisp and a little on the grey side.
But still no problem to read and looks like lots of fun stuff.
I am just glad you can get them all in one spot.

Actually, the early ones kinda looked like that on paper, too.

Looks like I sent this just to Joe. So I'll send it out again

How are these compared to the issues on cd?

A few issues were missing pages here and there and there were issues with the scans from time to time. Every now and again you would see the picture of the scanned words instead of the OCR'd content. It wasn't horrible but it was distracting.

I had to scan my own issues for 36-40 but I'd love to have another set that wasn't my horrible scanning job.

I don't know how they compare to the scans on the CD's. I haven't seen the Cd's.
They open with Adobe reader.
I read them on my iPhone's Kindle app at bedtime.
So far they read fine and so much fun info.

I am really glad that Rivendell has made these available.

If you like, give me some page numbers where you had problems if you like and I'll check mine out and let you know how it is.

I used to enjoy getting the Reader, and recall all the "I got mine !" excitement on the old list too. Even though I generally received mine days later than most, being on the other side of quite a large pond from Riv HQ. My 1994 B'Stone catalog and some of the readers are still in my bathroom, and still providing entertainment and relaxation. One day I will finish the quiz in the catalogue, clip out the page, and send it to Riv, as a gentle historical message-in-a-bottle.

I was interested in the USB archive, but ... shipping is $50 to here. I do understand. There's more to "shipping" than putting a stamp on something. But I can't find it in me to pay this amount. I have no interest in any potential underhand way of obtaining the collection. I do wonder if the Readers are in a state where it might be possible for Riv to publish them on Kindle ? I have no idea how to do this, but my mother, who is not desperately into computers ( she prefers gardening and cooking ), has published to Kindle. She seems to have worked it out. It would be great to see them available to purchase electronically for those of us far away. Somewhat protects the content too, I understand, though that horse may have bolted.

I like both ideas - publishing to Kindle or the iPad, and the idea of mailing in super-old quizzes.

Sorry for the late response. Here is a pic from RR16 page 4. You can see when you click on it that there are some issues with the txt about 1/2 way down the screen. It's decipherable but ugly.

Cork is fine. Your "paper" looks white. Cork version looks grey. But cork reads fine. No scrambling of lines/words.
Wanted to upload a pic, but don't know how.
