We've got bills. We need to start 2012 with fewer SKUs (part numbers).
We need to sell one or two of a thing, and not five.

It will be good for us with your help. It should be good for you, too.

Go here, and as they say, "Shop Early For Best Selection."

http://www.rivbike.com/Rivendell-Sale-s/571.htm

And thank you.

Looks like some of the sale prices aren't showing in the cart. We are
working on it. If you have ordered, the price will be adjusted.

Thanks!

There will always be a way to set up a singlespeed, if you are so inclined.  The thing you have to snap up now is the Platrack and Slickersack.  That's a setup you cannot duplicate easily.  I've got four bikes with a Marks or a Nitto mini front rack, and the Platrack goes on any of them in under 5 minutes.  That makes all of them an S24O bike.  I'll probably pick up an extra platrack and a Slickersack since they are being phased out.

Seriously, if you have a Nitto Mini front rack or a Marks rack, I absolutely guarantee you'll be happy you bought a platrack to hang flat on your wall until you need it.  That platform will hold tent/sleeping bag and mat for your S240s over the next 20 years.  You'll be really happy the extra versatility that you added to your bike.

I'm really sad that is one of the things that's being deleted from the lineup.

+1.  Great rack -- amazingly fast to install/remove, and excellent load carrying capacity -- made even better in combination with the Slickersack.  Best commuter setup on the planet -- you can even fold dress clothes in it.

+2. The Platrack is a great product as is the Slicker Sack. One could ultralight tour around the world with the Platrack and a good packing strategy, or happily ride to work with a neatly packed change of clothes for the rest of one's career. I'm almost tempted to buy another Platrack to have as a spare...

However, in the Darwinism of the market great products are not necessarily successful or profitable products.

Well... the temptation was too great. I succumbed earlier today. Platrack, Slickersack, Shopsack, Bullmoose bars, the whole nine yards. Everything I wanted except a Wald Woody which disappeared on me while I was in the midsts of loading my basket. Oh, and I missed out on a spare Railroad shirt for myself, which I clearly recall my size being available last night. Did score one for my father.

I told my wife I'll be starting a 12 step program for impulse buyers come January 1.

Happy New Year,

I'm surprised the PlatRack-SlickerSack combo is going. I've already got a PlatRack on one bike, and it's excellent, so I'm going to grab another in case I decide I want one on my Bombadil later.

Also a shame to see the bullmoose go. I'm not a 'flat bar' person but if I was going to ride a pair, they'd be the ones. I've seen many photos of list members' bullmoose bikes, and they look great.

How many is too many bike parts?

I mean some of these part may disappear from availability.
True?

I'm not sure one can have too many bike parts.
After all, stuff happens. Plus it is a frugal endeavor compared to, say, collecting Ferraris.
True?

I learned this train of thought by reading the great writings of Dr. Douglas Brooks.
The Dr. is a smart fella, he knows bikes along with a bunch of stuff.

Great sale! Karen and I picked up a few items, and I got to ride Bosco Rubbe with the NewBar. What a fun bike to ride, and I ♥ the comfort and multi-position ergonomics of the NewBar...enough to consider replacing the Bullmoose bar on my Hunqapillar with the NewBar when it's available.

It was also great chatting with Vince, Keven, and Grant while we were there. Just a really nice way to spend part of this cool and cloudy day.

Which one of you scoundrels bought my Silver Hoop?

I snatched up a platrack+slickersack and a few odds and ends last night but was regretting not getting a silver hoop. I went on tonight to make another order and the silver hoops are gone. Not that I really needed it but... you know... just in case. Probably better that they're gone 'cause I would have found $125 worth of additional "just in case" parts to get up to the "free" shipping level. Regardless of my missing out on the silver hoop, I'm glad stuff's selling and hope the sale is successful for the kids in Walnut Creek.

Hope everyone enjoys their new goodies.

I now have 3 bikes with Bullmoose bars and ordered an extra one just in case since 2 are 150 and 1 is a 200. I'm feeling more comfortable on the 150, but the 200 has something special as well. So, for now 3 bikes will have 150 Bullmoose bars and the 200 will be on the wall... Just in case they're never available again...

Got a few other items as well, and maybe will fill my basket one more time.

Where will this New Year's group meet? I may have to join...

Happy New Year!!!

Were you the couple from Modesto? I rode by and picked up a few
things. The NZ wool is great stuff at full price, and everyone could
use a railroad shirt or two. I also tried the Bosco Rubbe -- it felt
like a supercharged Schwinn paper boy bike. That's a compliment, by
the way. The BR is comfortable, looks to provide a lot of utility, and
is light and responsive.

Also I got to say farewell to Jay. He said he'll be working on more
videos in Arizona; I told him to post them here so we can all see
them.

Wow! They weren't kidding about "shop early for best availability".
I wrote up my list last night, then put it aside until now. Several
items have disappeared already. Snooze = lose.

I was able to pare the list down to stuff I really truly can possibly
use someday. I'm still arguing with myself about the Platrack. No
identifiable need BUT IT'S SO COOL!

I was greatly surprised to learn that the railroad (aka cobb) shirt is
going away. I have both a seersucker shirt and a railroad shirt and
depending on the tmperature they are my go-to shirts for lots of
occasions. If you haven't got a railroad shirt, do it now! It softens
up beautifully after the first washing, to become The Best Old Comfy
Shirt Ever.

The Platrack (and slickersack) was calling out to me, too, even though
I don't have the mini rack it fits, and I'm pretty happy with the
front bag/basket/racks I do have. It's just a genius idea. I am glad
the sale appears to be going well, and I hope it frees up the space
and cash for some of the projects we've been hearing about.
I wrote a little blog post on the sale last night, and when I came
back to add the links this morning, half the products were gone!

Hi Jim,

The Bosco Rubbe was a lot of fun to ride, wasn't it?  I like your description- "...like a supercharged Schwinn paper boy bike."  I think both the frame(with the extra long top tube) and the NewBar contributed to the fun factor.  What did you think of the asymmetric stays?  I thought they looked kind of cool, in an artistic flair kind of way.

Yeah, the asymmetric stays are cool. Also, that new bar feels great and has a lot of good hand positions. Bring your bikes next time you make the trip and we'll show you around Diablo.

Since this sale started, my wife and I have gone back to the well a few times...lol.  I definitely agree that it was wise to move quickly on the more popular items.  I was going to pick up another pair of "old" MUSA shorts during the first day of the sale...too late...every color in my size(L) was gone. :(

Maybe my wife and I missed it, but it seems Riv has added their "new" MUSA pants to the sale.  My wife snatched up a pair of the "old" MUSA pants earlier in the sale, and I've just snagged a pair of the "new" ones...just a couple of bucks less than the "old" ones.  Worth checking out.  :)

Wow, the stuff sure sold quickly. I saw the e-mail friday but was on
the road for my annual winter "tour" and didn't wan to use the iPhone
to buy stuff. Everything I would have bought was gone except some
Olive old style pants. I wear them around the offices/cubes and un-
velcro'd they look fairly normal (do these things ever wear out?) so I
bought a couple pair.

I'll have to put money toward a dyna hub which after this ride I think
I need more than the other things. Serendipity they call it.

It was good for Rivendell... not so sure it was good for me. The
vegan panniers for my son's bike were on sale, but, um, I had to buy a
not-on-sale rear rack for them to go on. And then while I was there,
how about some of those ridiculously expensive but last forever
Schwalbe Marathons? And some Rolly Polys, and oh I need fenders too
because I don't like the metal fenders I have now that don't break
away. Several hundred dollars later...
