Got an email today from a guy i last rode with 6months ago or more. Team kit, cervelo carbon bike. Attached was a pic of his new bike. S&S coupled surly with Brooks saddle and Acorn bags front and rear. Said the ride of the "fat " 28mm tires was surprisingly quick.

Could a Rivendell be too fat behind?

I have ridden and owned many bikes. I just turned 60. I still like to be challenged from time to time. But, I don't race and the quality of my rides will never  be measured by seconds. When I first entered the RHQ, I had a long conversation with Grant. Even though he's a few years younger, he was miles ahead in cycling experience. He opened my eyes. I bought a Ram frameset that day and later bought my favorite bike of all time, my Roadeo. I still ride with the same group of riders (carbon and whatever) and my position in the group has not changed. I think, because of the improvement in my position on the bike, I am actually able to ride faster over the length of longer rides. If you are so inclined, buy what "Lance" rides. I found that it just didn't work for me.
Thanks for Grant bucking the trend
