Having been a fickled reader in my college years (reading random old
sports books and manga mostly). It was and still is hard for me to
find a book to be interested in. Only in the past three years, being
surrounded by English teachers, I been bombarded with books from a
variety of different "classic" genres like zombies and dancing. But
one subject that I have never really gotten into despite my obsessive
interest is cycling. Up until I heard there was a book signing for
Team Seven-Eleven, the story of the first all American professional
team to go the Tour De France. They had a event at Los Altos at the
Bicycle Outfitters where the team manager and a handful of the
original team members were there to talk about the book and sign a
couple copies. Having never really met any professional cyclists or
been interested in professional cycling in general I wanted to check
it out what the hubbub was all about. Meeting the riders and team
manager it was apparent that they had a certain type of panche to how
they acted. They had a sense of confidence with their stories but
still had very human-like qualities that you could relate too. They
had a sense of competitiveness that was scary even from across the
room. I bought the book because of these amazing stories and so far
it's be a refreshing reminder that I don't have the drive nor do I
have competitive nature to even try to race. But I digress back to the
main point at hand. Grant's book.l Like many of you on the forum, I'm
planning on pre-ordering the book because I enjoy Rivendell's
qualities and notions on bike riding and I'm interested in reading the
book maybe buy a copy or two for a handful of cycling buddies. But for
those that don't know what Rivendell is all about it would be great if
Rivendell hosted a book signing or even better a bike ride/book
signing for those that don't really know the mystery's of just riding.
Just a thought.

Pictures Proved that I got the book sign:

I just got my email from RBW about pre-ordering the book and I'm pondering what would be best, RBW or one of the vendors.  Since Grant says that they want to build confidence in the vendors, I'm thinking that Amazon might be best.  They include user reviews of everything, so readers could post reviews for the world to see (hint...)  Cheers, Steve

When this subject came up a couple weeks ago, I filled out my public library's "recommended acquisition" web form and suggested that thousands of cyclists in our town (Madison, WI) would love to read the book. It's a natural for any public library collection. (hint, hint).

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a long time and finally have
something to contribute.

If everyone on this list and others purchase the book from Amazon on
the same day, the book has a good chance of being on the best sellers
list for that day (would have to sell a few hundred copies on the same
day), but I think that means we'd have to wait to order it till it's
released(?).

A while ago (October 26, 2010) the authors (and self publishers) of
this book Machine of Death (http://machineofdeath.net/about) organized
a day where all the people who were planning on buying the book would
buy it from Amazon on the day that it was released, and it ended up
beating out Glenn Beck's book that was released the same day.

The release date for just ride is May 8 according to the announcement.
I don't know what's better for the book (pre orders or a day at number
one because of a motivate and organized cache of fans) but it is
something that is possible.

Although, this may not be necessary at all. Just Ride is already
number two on Amazon's Movers and Shakers list.

Awesome!
