Okey - dokey.... 

Here's what seems to be the deal.  Google migrated the groups over to a new format, and is semi-redirecting things to that new location.  It seems to load much faster if you go directly to the new "Forums" fomat, which can be found here:

So, just to divert comments about this -

1) Yes, it's a different presentation.  I liked the older way too, but then again, I was just used to it.  In a couple weeks, you'll probably never miss it.

2) Yes, it makes you reestablish your google ID connections, no longer using your previous image or moniker.  No, I don't know why.  If this vexes you, please direct your wrath to the folks at google, rather than share it with the group.

3) The discussion can still be enjoyed via email, rather than the site. 

All-righty, that's enough list-adminy stuff for a Friday....

For some reason, my interface already migrated quite awhile ago. I can't even remember what the old one looked like and certainly don't miss it! If yours hasn't migrated, you can do it yourself by clicking on the link to "View this group in the new Google Groups", which should appear on the right of your screen if you're already in your group. From the main Groups page, instead, the link is called "Preview the new Google Groups." Just click and go.

Changing the way you choose to view it to the new Groups format should resolve loading speed issues, as the new Groups interface loads lickety split.

I don't really like that format. I've been using this one which seems
to work fine. Easier to see the topics and loads quickly:

The new site loads much faster than the old one ever did, almost instantaneous on my macbook.  I'm a happy camper.
