I like the standard Riv builds. I don't think it is being a copycat.

I think the build kits are fantastic.

One thing I did that was different was run the bar end cable housings along the noodle bars, exiting at stem with the brake housings. Works great - cleaner look.

HA! I know the feeling. My new-to-me Saluki is due to arrive tomorrow, and I've had similar qualms about the build. All the parts I have ready for it fit its intended Country Bike mission: triple Suginos, city-type bars, friction shifters, cork grips, wide Brooks saddle, saddlebag. You're right about how Rivendell absorption can distort our view of these bicycles. To most carbon-riding types, they look very different..possibly vintage. To us EVERY bike looks this way :)

I think this happens too often. The standard Riv look is classic and great, but it doesn't satisfy the need of some to personalize the bike. Of course, personalizing it will not impress most of those who are accustomed to the standard package, but if you like electric pink lightning-bolt Deep-V rims, I say go for it.

WOW..a little too brave for my tastes. I may put that Patterson 2-speed system on the Saluki in lieu of the triple Sugino and a front derailer. Match that with with my "CNC-era" Amarican-made Precision Billet rear mech, and I'd say that's different enough, eh?

I had a similar experience buying and building my Hillborne.  My advice?  Revel in the look!  It is a sign of solid, comfortable cycling unknown to those who plagiarized the racing look without even knowing it.

As a fellow 65 Homer-er... a hearty congratulations on the new bike. 

Even if it is a typical Riv build, it's nice to see pictures. 

Did you go with 1TT or 2TT? Does anyone know if there are other Riv models/sizes that have 2TT as an option?

I've had my 65 Homer for about a year and it's been through several configurations... kid haulin' grocery getter, s24o, s36o, tourer, sunny day tripper, rainy day tripper, family vacationer, randonneur, and a few others I don't really remember at the moment. It was a wonderful bike for all of them. 

Don't be afraid to tinker with the set-up.

No offense intended but looking over the buildup it is amazing so methinks I smell the humble brag at work here. Paul Brakes, Phil hub, SON 28 generator, Giles bag, Tubus Rack. Every part of this bike is top shelf all the way. Anyone who knows bikes will admire this build and not have a thought that it isnt "unique" enough.  I mean you have nearly color matched zip ties!! :)
